Cold snowy day cooking.

When it is cold and snowy, and I don't want to go out. I like to enjoy being inside, with the smell of cooking. Often, it is done in a crock pot, to make it even better.

I've made chili before, but it is "just okay" (Rather, sucks!) (Apparently chili making isn't my thing)
I like making spaghetti "meat" sauce, once it gets going, spells so delicious. Which is so nice as you look out and see falling snow.

1 lb ground beef
1 lb ground pork
1 medium onions, chopped fine
2 (28 ounce) cans diced tomatoes, with juice
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 bay leaves
5 garlic cloves, pressed
4 teaspoons dried oregano
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
4 teaspoons dried basil
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon dried thyme

1-Brown meats and onion in a skillet and drain well.
2-Transfer to your crock pot.
3-Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
4-Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours.
5- Serve over hot spaghetti noodles.

Hard to beat the smell of a simmering pot of spaghetti sauce on a cold day. Your post has settled my menu for today.

cold day=Italian spaghetti=Patriots game=victory (hopefully)

HEAT BABY HEAT!!!
I don't see the heat!
Needs chile powder, cayenne and cumin. I go freestyle without a recipe now.

My brother does Competition Chile. He does well enough in Virginia to gets invited to the Terlingua, Texas finals. »www.chili.org/
And gets blown out of the water. Competition chile will snap your neck, it's so hot!
Every year I get a box of last years spices. All sorts of chile powders, peppers, spices and other bits of heat. I put the stuff in most everything when it gets to the left-over stage. (old photo, I have a new inventory)

You talked me into it. I added A LITTLE heat with some Chili powder. But I am not big on hot spicy foods.

I free-styled tonight.
Cleared the fridge.
1.5 lbs of ground beef and sirloin tips cut, can of crushed tomato, an onion, 1/2 green pepper, couple mushrooms, bit o' garlic, spices.

Pro Tips:
Spice in the pot before the meat browns. It releases all the goodness.
Cumin is a great "nose" spice.
I don't salt or sugar the stuff.
Caramelize the onions or not changes the flavor (duh).

Best of luck!
