However, family and friends have be summoned to the hospital at his request; apparently he wants to say a final goodbye. -- Shine on you crazy diamond... |

If he is close to death my guess would be it has more to do with the fall he took last month....fall and fractures can be deadly for the elderly.....I believe he also had a hip replacement not to long ago....then he was injured while on the sidelines. ___
Former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, who is battling lung cancer, is in "serious condition" according to his son, Scott. Scott tweeted around 9:20 p.m. ET Saturday night in response to reports that Paterno had passed away, "CBS report is wrong - Dad is alive but in serious condition. We continue to ask for your prayers and privacy during this time."

 | reply to Romney2012 Matt Millen said he died of a broken heart. Penn State was his life and when they threw him under the bus he lost his will to live. What a shame. |

| He died of cancer.
Blaming Penn State for his death makes no more sense than saying "they killed Paterno but they let Sandusky live".

 | Mike Ditka, Lou Holts, Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit all would disagree with you. I tend to think as they do. |

Two National Championships, 35 times finished the season in the AP top 25, won a record 409 games (one more than my college coach), and had a very high player graduation rate.
If his accomplishments are forever tainted with Sandusky's scandal is yet to be seen. |

| said by dogma:If his accomplishments are forever tainted with Sandusky's scandal is yet to be seen. I doubt his football coaching accomplishments, or his positive effect on so many players over the years, will be blotted out by the Sandusky thing. His part in the Sandusky thing will probably be remembered as "old guy who didn't know what to do, or did the wrong thing", not as the event that defined him.
"complications from lung cancer" seems to be the cause of death. »msn.foxsports.com/collegefootbal···h-012112 -- their dreams a tattered sail in the wind |
