 | running 2 routers without nat issues Assuming that I don't want to install non-telus firmware on my Actiontech to enable bridge mode, would this setup still work?
My own D-link router connected to one of the lan ports on the Actiontech while enabling DMZ on the Actiontech for the IP of the DLink.
Would that eliminate any NAT issues? |

 | Regardless of using DMZ or not, connecting 2 routers in series is double NAT. This type of setup is problematic (as well as cutting down throughput) and not recommended. |

 | reply to waferstick Yes, it will work make sure that the D-link router uses different local addresses. ie Actiontec uses 192.168.1.XXX - make the D-link use for example 192.168.0.XXX. Copy the dns server addresses from the Actiontec router to your D-link router and you should not encounter any slowdowns. You should be able to access both routers from behind your D-link router. That way you can modify the networks. You can make the Actiontec router block everything but IPTV. The D-link router handles everything to your computers network.
How much more you will to do depends on what you plan your networks to do. |

2nd router is - plugged into one of the switch ports of the actiontec to it's WAN port. - is on a complete different network, I used 10.100.1.x - I manually put DNS entries copied from the actiontec
Seems to work ok. I have QOS'd the 2nd router (WAN port with DD-wrt) to a level I'm comfrotable with providing and didn't do anything on the actiontec to make it work anymore than it has to. I did not set a DMZ port.
I can access my 2nd router from the actiontec network so I'm happy. -- Telus ADSL User Since 1999 |

I know two people who are sharing a flat and have only one service, although they live in separate rooms! Who should I report those crooks to? I suspect the reason for this post is because you must have read the End User Agreeement published by Telus which is never being read by anyone. Tell us, what group of people living at the same address qualifies for one service? Do you have to be blood relatives, marrried, or common law is good enough? In case Telus can't provide another service, will they at least allow you to pay double?

 | reply to waferstick I settled for double NAT and turned off the Actiontec wireless. I think it adds maybe 5 ms to my ping times max, but speeds are exactly the same as going direct. |
