[HSI] Charter - Connectivity

Out of the blue, about 4 days ago, we've been suffering bad connectivity issues, where our service drops then comes back on, sometimes every few minutes. We just upgraded to a combo Surfboard docsis 3, (the problem started before this modem, while using a docsis 1) so I'm curious if this is becoming widespread for people and what the issue may be. We're in Mankato, MN and the last time I did a speedtest it resulted in 41mbps download.

We had a tech out a few days ago and didn't seem to come up with anything, and now we're supposed to be having a supervisor/lead tech or somebody coming out on Tuesday.

Modem is a Moto Surfboard: SBG6580-3.1.0.0-GA-07-180-NOSH

some examples from the Modem Log:

-ToD request sent - No Response received
-Missing BP Configuration Setting TLV Type: 17.9
-DHCP FAILED - Requested Info not supported
-Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received - T3 time-out
-No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out
-No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out

Edit: I'm requesting a firmware update so we'll see if that resolves it. I suppose worst case I'll just get a separate modem and router instead of the combo. Also some more modem info:

Downstream:
1 Locked QAM256 198 729000000 Hz -5.7 dBmV 37.9 dB
2 Locked QAM256 197 723000000 Hz -5.0 dBmV 38.7 dB
3 Locked QAM256 199 735000000 Hz -5.1 dBmV 38.0 dB
4 Locked QAM256 200 741000000 Hz -5.2 dBmV 38.7 dB

Upstream:
1 Locked ATDMA 2 2560 Ksym/sec 26400000 Hz 44.5 dBmV

Anybody know if those numbers are in good range?

could still be signal issue most likely on the return path which you cant see anyway (charter direct folks will probably tell you if thats the case) guess we wait for news on firmware (i wonder if charter even has newer firmware for that modom)

Is your modem cycling? (all lights going out and then the modem reboots/ lights start blinking again, etc).

I had issues with the Motorola SBG6580 as well on Charter. You need to adjust some settings turn the IP FLOOD Detection off. With it enabled it will slow down your connection. Also i was told by Charter then did not support modem / router combos or the SBG6580 so I got the Motorola SB6121 and my connection has been more stable since then. I am in The Southern CA market.

Yeah, it was doing the cycle over and over again, for the most part. I came home today and noticed the firmware version was updated and now everything seems stable. Guess this modem is okay with them. We'll see if it holds out.

Is there an easy way to request a firmware update?
