Re: [Business] Comcast buisness class questions

You can't use your SB6121. You will need to buy the older SB6120.

This will be installed at a home in a residential area. I work from home rather than have a home business. The SB6121 is listed on the supported modems page for this area, does business class internet have their own supported list published anywhere?

Comcast has only recently decided to officially allow dynamic IP business class customers to use their own modem. I am not aware of a publicly posted list, but the topic is discussed in this recent thread: »Customer-provided modems on Business Class

you can go to mydeviceinfo.comcast.net to get info on compatible devices for the business class service.
In my opinion you want the residential video service anyhow, it gives you the dvr option and on demand as well as more channels for the price than business class does.

I went to the approved modem list before I replied to the OP, but I did not initially notice the business class slider control. Now I see it:

Thanks, I missed the business class slider as well. I have a SB6120 on order and sent a request to Comcast for a quote.

I will attempt to get residential TV and the 22/5 business class package.

I just spoke with a salesman from business class, they are sending some documentation over to confirm service. I can have residential television at the address with business class internet.

He reported that I would be unable to use my own cable modem and that I would need to use a Comcast provided SMC gateway. I will be using a dynamic IP, this seems in contradiction to the thread that I read:

»Customer-provided modems on Business Class

He explained that only a comcast provided modem could be properly provisioned and identified on the network as buisness class level device. I doubt the technical validity of this, the MAC just needs to be registered AFAIK. I really don't want to deal with a gateway, I will ask if a non gateway modem is available and/or if I can use a Moto SB6120.

I would settle for leased SB6120. It's on their approved modems list, just tell the sales rep to put that in the contract.

If they still refuse another approach is to use the 30 day 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you are not 100% satisfied with the business class service you may cancel within the first 30 days after installation and be refunded 100% of the install fees and monthly fees. They aren't going to use you as a customer over a supported modem.
