Identifying dresser

My wife picked this up today. We are trying to identify time period, manufacturer, anything about it. She paid very little for it. The drawers are in very good shape but the dresser itself has some nicks and dents (expected).

The seller got it from their grandparents more than 25 years ago. The grandparents got it from somebody in Alabama. The grandparents are no longer living so the info we have is what I posted.

Not much help, but the "D. 730-11 (maybe 7/30/1911) should be a date & the MAH means Mahogany.

Mass-produced, veneered, probably 1930's earliest.

The latch and round escutcheons are not original.

I wouldn't be surprised if your wife actually paid more than the new price. It was likely well under $100 new.

I don't recognize the style, not my field.

I'll second that, and yes not expert, but I see a bunch there that says no way antique... a reproduction and not terribly good one.

Thanks for the replies. We got it for cheap to serve a purpose, not for age, beauty, etc.

As long as you and the wife like it it doesn't matter what it is!
Enjoy!!!

I read it as ASTM D730-1911, but I don't know what pin type lime insulators have to do with this.

If it helps in your search at all, this isn't a dresser - it's a sideboard, otherwise known as a buffet or server. It would have been part of a dinning set. The china goes in the side cabinets, and the drawers are meant for silver and table linens.

It appears to be mid-last century and mass produced, so not an antique but enjoyable just the same. My wife was hunting one of these for a project not so long ago. The average asking price we commonly saw in our area with was ~$200 (although we snagged ours for $50 after much hunting).

You could make up your own story and leave it for the next owner in the future find the story is bogus.

Regardless if it is mass produced or a one off unit, it is still miles ahead in quality to anything being built now..

Enjoy.

Very true which is why I build my own furniture. This time I convinced the wife to get this instead of me building one (I needed a break).

About to start the dining room table.

At least at sane prices. I told myself I was going to hold my nose and buy real solid wood furniture last year.

Couldn't stomach it. $1000 for a table that was basically a circular slab with two other slabs holding it up. No fancy detailing or anything.

When I get the itch for real furniture again I'll try to find the patience to shop the used market.
