exocet_cmYou delete it, I'll find itPremium join:2003-03-23 New Orleans, LA kudos:2 2 edits | Identifying dresser My wife picked this up today. We are trying to identify time period, manufacturer, anything about it. She paid very little for it. The drawers are in very good shape but the dresser itself has some nicks and dents (expected).
The seller got it from their grandparents more than 25 years ago. The grandparents got it from somebody in Alabama. The grandparents are no longer living so the info we have is what I posted. -- "I have measured out my life with coffee spoons..." - T.S Eliot "I have often regretted my speech, never my silence." - Publilius Syrus Ma blog: »www.johndball.com |

The latch and round escutcheons are not original.
I wouldn't be surprised if your wife actually paid more than the new price. It was likely well under $100 new.
I don't recognize the style, not my field. |

 | reply to exocet_cm If it helps in your search at all, this isn't a dresser - it's a sideboard, otherwise known as a buffet or server. It would have been part of a dinning set. The china goes in the side cabinets, and the drawers are meant for silver and table linens.
It appears to be mid-last century and mass produced, so not an antique but enjoyable just the same. My wife was hunting one of these for a project not so long ago. The average asking price we commonly saw in our area with was ~$200 (although we snagged ours for $50 after much hunting).

Enjoy. Very true which is why I build my own furniture. This time I convinced the wife to get this instead of me building one (I needed a break).

pnjunctionTeksavvy ExtremePremium join:2008-01-24 Toronto, ON kudos:1 | reply to JRW2 At least at sane prices. I told myself I was going to hold my nose and buy real solid wood furniture last year.
Couldn't stomach it. $1000 for a table that was basically a circular slab with two other slabs holding it up. No fancy detailing or anything.
When I get the itch for real furniture again I'll try to find the patience to shop the used market. |
