[Internet] Are You Still On Grandfathered Plan

I know there are still plenty of people still on it. But is there any real reason for us to stay on it anymore? Teksavvy is about the launch their own 25/7 line with Unlimited now. Which costs about the same price as what we're paying right now. $70 a month before taxes. The Teksavvy is about $8 more but it's a much faster line.

What's everyone's opinion on this?

Re: [Internet] Are You Still On Grandfathered Plan

The current grandfathered unlimited profile maxes out at 6 Mbps. The top Teksavvy profile is 25 with unlimited bandwidth in the middle of the night.

I think that's what the OP is trying to convey.

Untrue .

High Speed DSL 25 25 Unlimited 77.99**

Pulled from the TSI website. Its Unlimited/Unlimited as they say.
The other profiles that have a 300GB limit don't count to that limit between 2 and 8am.

So, if you can get 25/7...I wouldn't stay on the 6/.8 profile anymore if I could...even if you could get 16/1 which is

High Speed DSL 16 16 Unlimited 59.99**

$60/month...I'd switch to that for double the speed for the same price IMO...but that's me...the grandfathered unlimited profile is going to quickly disappear come feb. I believe as people realize that they're paying for nonsense...unless they can't get a higher speed tier..because lets face it, it'd be ludicrous to pay more for a lower speed tier...even if you could save some money and get 12/1 from them for $54.99, that's gotta be less than the unlimited tier now, right? Its up to what, $65/mth? (again where available).

I just called in my 30 days notice a just over a week ago. After tax is just over $80 now and likely to go up more this year (my guess is it'll hit the same price point as the TSI 25/7 unlimited tier later this year). It just isn't worth keeping anymore.

Yeah it's been really attractive to switch for months now. One drawback is the 130$ setup fee

I stand corrected!

Did those figures from TSI change because I was sure when the news first came out they were only unlimited during "low demand" times.

There weren't any changes. The original announcement said that the tiers with a 300GB cap have unlimited usage during low-peak hours, while they also offer unlimited usage tiers as well. The only change they made was the 3/0.8 Mbit/s tier, which was a mistake and it's actually 2/0.8 Mbit/s.

And for those of us for whom 5 meg/800 is the max, the discussion is irrelevant... and Teksavvy can't qualify my adress for 12 meg profile.

My dad has 7Mbit sync on the grandfathered unlimited plan still. Can't get FIBE there either, but he can get cable(Teksavvy). I've been trying to get him to switch off the DSL since it's ludicrous to be paying that much for 7Mbit DSL.

The problem is that the $77.99 price doesn't include the band rate for dryloop DSL so add another $10 to that price (I went VOIP so all I have with Bell is dryloop 5MB/800k legacy service)

So right *now* Bell is still cheaper on a per month basis *but* that may change at any point, add to that fact that 800k up for VoIP only works well if you aren't doing *any other uploading* at the same time and I'm left wondering if a switch might not be in order anyways

Finally couldn't take the rape sessions every six months anymore. Just the phone (no LD plan) and DSL (6mb unlimited grandfathered) for $111/mn. I milked the unlimited for as much as I could, but there's no point in sticking with it anymore.

Switching to Teksavvy 25/1 cable (300GB cap) this month and ported my number to voip.ms. Monthly cost expected at ~$60/mn. (maybe less.)

It's about time I start putting some $ back into my pocket every month. (Shouldda done this years ago! Better late than never!)

So long Bell, I'd prefer if you never contacted me again. I'll be sure to do the same. A clean break is always better. Good luck, though...you'll need it. Screw your TV as well. Gave that up a decade ago and haven't missed it yet, probably never will by the looks of it (same crappy brainwashing drule every year if not worst.)

P.S. Stop shitting on your most loyal customers. The are very likely to never return for anything. I certainly won't. Ever. Oh, I'll be switching my Mom and 3 brothers to voip.ms over the next few months. They were very interested in stopping their rape sessions also. Gee, I wonder how many converts I could get when I mention my phone bills are going to be under $5/mn. compared to their $30-60/mn.? {/rant}

I guess I should switch too. Currently still using Bell's Landland as well. Recently on RFD someone said you could call into retention and get Bell Home Phone Lite for $15 a month for the first year. Might do that first.

I have a question though about Bell Fibe 25. If I get the Dell package for $10 for 3 months, and I treat it as unlimited, is the max I can get charged for overcharges still $50? Cause that'd still be cheaper for at least the first 3 months. Then after that I could consider switching to Tekksavvy.

You could switch to TSI even if 5/800 is the max you can get...I've been with them since 2008, and I'm in the same boat as you DKS, but $45.99 for their unlimited has to be better than the $60+ you're paying through Bell right now, doesn't it?

I mean, $15/mth x 12 months = $180/year in savings....who doesn't want to save $180 dollars a year? I know I would...I'm on the 300GB plan which serves my needs and granted while its going up from its current $31.99 to $34.99, I'm still willing to stay with them.

Just food for thought...you can't possibly be saving money with Bell at this point with their plan....
