Re: [NFL] Super Bowl XLVI Discussion

Yeah.

And only 1 game left to go for the season...

Heheh...yeah, I've been watching some of it. Mostly channel surfing tonight though. (All these channels and nothing to watch).
But I've got to tell you, when I was watching the first quarter it was almost comical (even embarrassing), watching the lineman. They looked like they wanted to slow dance with each other rather than actually engage in battle. Even the announcers made a comment at one point that even though it was the pro bowl, it's still a football game and they need to "step it up a little". lol!

I remember in the old days hearing things like: "If you folks don't think they're playing for real, just look at that hit!".
Something just ain't the same anymore.
For one thing, I think they ruined what little excitement there ever was by playing it before the Super Bowl.
But yeah, I'm still addicted enough to football that I can't help but check in for a few plays now and then.

It was pretty funny considering what the Linemen do during the regular season. They were getting out of their stances and just walking around, sometimes towards the QB, but not really.

I'm kind of ambivalent about the Pro Bowl being played before the Super Bowl. It fills the gap between Championship games and Super Bowl, but you don't get the Super Bowl players in it.
I don't remember watching it much when it was on after the Super Bowl though.

I usually watched the whole game when it was after the SB. Mostly because it really was the very last game of the season, and I needed my fix.
I'd be interested to hear if the viewing audience dropped a lot since they started playing it before the SB.
Like you said. For one thing, it's supposed to be all about the best players, but you don't get to see some of them play.
I want my money back!

But this is one of the more entertaining ones of late. Sort of like watching roller-derby or wrasslin'.

I always considered the Super Bowl as the last game of the season, because it was actually the last game played like a real game. Plus it was the reason the regular season was played anyway, so the biggest game served as the best "cap" on the season.

I actually think I prefer it this way, before the Super Bowl. I wonder about the viewing audience too though.

They seem to be stepping up the game now too.

I do like the trick plays, fake punts, onside kicks, laterals, and general foolishness on the field.

Do the players on the winning team get a little extra vig for winning?

For sure they stepped it up a lot since the 1st quarter. Guess they just can't help but be football players after all, once they start getting into it...even in a 'make believe' game.

Yeah, I forget how much, but the winners get more. (Unless they've changed it since I last heard), so there is some incentive.

What would be fun to see is the teams playing for a trophy or flag to carry around or something.

Perhaps you could design something for them, Rockot?

We would need a marketing campaign for it first... we might as well make money off of it.

Everyone will want a "Rockoriginal".

"DEFENSE"-"DEFENSE"

I hope the score is the same in the SB, but with the NFC on top instead. (And as you all know, I'm an AFC kind of guy...but not in this SB!)

Now that pick and lateral for a TD is somethin' you don't see every day.

I was just going to comment on that.

More of that in the Pro-Bowl, please.

I'm kind of ambivalent about the Pro Bowl being played at all.
Well, actually I'm not-- it shouldn't be played. Just name some guys 'Pro Bowlers' (and no, not like Dick Weber) and let that be the end of it.

Also, what's Pro Bowl talk doing in the Super Bowl thread? The Pro Bowl isn't fit to hold the Super Bowl's jockstrap.
You people should be ashamed.

LOL! I must admit, you make some excellent points, AB. (Maybe fatness will split this silly thread up when all is said and done).
In the mean time, back to the...um, "game".

No, on second thought...back to the movie I was watching...later guys.
