WoW-aholics

If this thread has existed in the past then I do appologize.

I have played since early BC. Part of that time I was puting in 5 hrs a day all week long (excluding deployment playtime). During that time I was unfair to the ammount of time I spent with my wife. I have since recified that. On a heavy week I play 2-3 hrs at a time, 2 or 3 days a week.

Recently I have found that I play less and less, mostly due to lack of challenge and new and gripping content.

My point/question is, has anyone had issues with spending too much time in Azeroth in the past? What is your definition of "too much time"? How has 4.X or other games affected your addiciton/love of the game?

Lost my taste for heavy WoWing around the time I started dating my wife. Haven't ever been hooked like that since. Now in my downtime, I'm dedicating 10-15 hours a week to SWTOR, mostly to keep me distracted while my wife watches her horrible reality tv shows. Yes...she has 10-15 hours a week of reality TV she watches...but don't get me started on that.

But, "too much" really is a lose definition. For me, as long as I'm getting the work done I need to around the house, keeping my wife happy, and not falling behind on other past times, then I'm playing just the right amount.

Yeah... I do spend weeks where I play alot, and other that I don't. I play on a cycle I think. One week I'll be on 5-7 days a week for 2-4 hours without stopping, then the next 3-4 days during the week for an hour here and there.

Umm.. when I could be doing more constructive things, 1 hour is too much time.. hehe. MMO's are defiantly a huge time sink, but immensly fun. I find I have to steer back my play time on occasion and keep an eye on it so I get balance in other aspects of my life, but there are days here and there where I put to much time into the game without a doubt. On the other hand, everyone need a hobby and I'd rather play vids then watch TV.

As long as my kids aren't saying come outside to play dad, and I'm not saying, no, gotta farm this boss a little longer, or I'm looking for reasons not to but the little ones in soccer or something cause it's my raid night, I'm ok I suppose. It' just about priorities and making sure you have the right ones.

Right there! 30 minutes on WoW could be to much if it means you are putting it as a priority over work and family. Unless you're getting paid to play it!

I have stopped, but when I played I was on every night for 3-4 hours for the past 5-6 years if I wasn't on a deployment. But I played late after everyone was asleep and lost lots of sleep for it. If my family was out of town or I was on the road somewhere with wifi I would sit and play all day and night.

I am resubbing for the month of Febuary more than likely, just for something to do.

Back in vanilla WOW my (26? year old) roommate quit his job while leveling from 55-60. He just stopped going to work and lived off his savings account for several months until he couldn't afford bills and had to move. He's a cool guy, just got overly addicted.

I had stints years ago where I would have all day gaming sessions playing but I never put real life on the back burner to do it.

I took personal time off and didn't sleep for 2 days to power level to 85 when cata came out, is that bad?

I got paid to powerlevel, cool ^_^

Not at all JP. I took leave, earned time off is earned time off. Take it and enjoy it.

Well, it can be a bad thing stomping out new content that fast, ESPECIALLY Cata. What will you do for the other three months everyone is playing Cata?

Some times when there was questionable weather, I would stay home and "work from home" because the roads in my neighborhood were not plowed yet, blah blah blah. And then play all day.

Yeah, I think any gamer has instances of this. Snow day, kids at the sitters, what to do? Game time baby! woot woot!

Of course if you live in Bellevue, if you are snowed in so is half the town. I would be suprised if you are not told to stay home.

Blackthought here.
Long time former wower who used to get paid to play. Even with that incentive I had to stop. Partly because panda’s where the last straw, partly because it got boring and partly because It took too much “dedicated time”

I couldn’t raid because the requirement to do so was to demanding. Like if a one of my kids needed something and I was tanking I’d have to wipe the group and then 24 people get pissed at you

BG’s provided some relief but honestly after getting decked out pvp gear it became a lolfest of rape, pilliage and plunder so there was no challenge.
Arena was hard for the same reason as raiding.

All in all I found wow took to much dedicate to be a form of entertainment.

So I’ve been playing League of Legends and I couldn’t be happier.

My son on the otherhand was even more addicted to wow. I told him the other day that as a previous addict the best advice I could give him was to uninstall wow. He did and thanked me yesterday for that advice.

that's uncalled for. If they needed to quit, let them quit and cheer them on for doing so. If they fall off of the wagon... hey, it happens to all of us.

edit: grammar fail.

All right. I take it back that was rather rude. I uninstalled it many times as well. I wouldn't say I'm addicted anymore as I just play it casually now. Who cares if I don't have the best gear, no one will when the new xpac comes out.

My WoW...now SWTOR time is 2-3 hours a night after my wife and daughter are asleep. The only one who pays a price is me at work the next morning but i would never let gaming interfere with Daddy duty.

I condsider it time i would probably be watching tv anyway winding dow for the night.

During vanilla when my wife would be out of town for work and we didnt have our daughter i would go on 8 hour benders when i happened to be off. It was fun but i couldve done something more productive

Back in TBC, I played way too much. My guild was one of the top three on my server (getting a few server firsts), I was a class officer and the warlock tank for Illidan. My playtime decreased in WOTLK and even further in Cata. When Firelands came out I finally stopped raiding.

Now I rarely log in. I am thinking about canceling, but haven't yet cause I still enjoy logging in occasionally.

When I find myself not having gotten the crap I needed to do in a day...that's when I know I've been playing too much. Real life & work has to come first - WoW's just a game, and has to take a back seat to these things.

Only reason I haven't stopped playing this game is because of the WoW Annual Pass. It's not a bad thing really, as I like logging in from time to time - but not $15/month worth. With the WoW annual pass, it worked out to $6-7/month. That's a price level I can live with for keeping access to my online friends.

Similar situation here, but my wife watches "Novelas" (soap operas) in the afternoon while I play WoW, but I think is better to have me there on the computer than in some bar getting wasted.
