qwerty smart phone advise?

hey, i have samsung bt3310 with full keyboard, i love it, but its 2009 phone, not smart phone, its slow etc. im looking for qwerty phone, up to 300$usd. i prefer smaller ones, 3-3.3 inches. did some homeworks and so far i have in mind Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro, goes for around 270$. any advices, tips? it will be my first smartphone. i can get it for 260 usd in my country with 2 year warranty, vs 270 from amazon and not sure about warranty length.

i will not do much with it, some music, internet, texting, maybe some gaming, pictures, some videos etc. regular things.

The best keyboards are on BlackBerrys, but they really don't do anything else well.

Thanks to Apple, no one else seems to make smart phones will physical keyboards anymore (even the next-gen BB is rumored to drop physical keyboards which, is why I will not be buying one).

Once you get used to it virtual keyboards are a breeze. I feel I'm much faster now than I was on my old BB.

So my advice is to pick the best phone for you (keyboard or virtual keyboard). If it has a virtual, give it a week or two to learn and adapt. Apple, google and Microsoft have put much thought in virtual keyboard usability.

I still don't like them, I at least prefer a tactile response, and I also generally don't like laptop keyboards.

These phones are tiny enough already, my thumb is about 1" across so trying to accurately type on a screen with no tactile response where I can feel exactly what button I'm pressing just leads to more typing mistakes, and don't you dare say predictive text, I hate it with a passion when it frequently picks the wrong word when I typed what I wanted to type correctly the first time, just wasting my time if I don't make sure it has the correct word. I also can type without looking at the keyboard on my computer at home.

The unfortunate reality is these most smartphone don't have them anymore, and on screen keyboards are better for the hunt and peck typists.

I agree. I had an LG Chocolate Touch. I got pissed off one day and messed my original one (the earpiece sound was faint, only worked with bluetooth). I bought another LG Touch and got pissed off at that one because it would reboot the moment I wanted to text. The first one lasted me over a year, the second one lasted me almost a month before it got destroyed. Now I have a Samsung Reality SCH-U820 and seems okay. At least it has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that I can use.
