| New wireless STB My question assumes that there is nothing really new about the wireless STB. Its just a Cisco STB (IPN330HD) and ATT ships a wireless AP with it right?
I am considering switching to the wireless STB and im hoping I can just call ATT up and have them send me out the AP only. I believe there would still be a $50 charge and im OK with that.
Anyone every try this successfully? Im guessing its not even worth the trouble to go this route.
Basically im trying to save the trouble of them sending me the same STB I already have and just sending it back sans AP. |

 | Pretty sure it's a different STB then what you already have as I don't think your current ones are wifi enabled. Someone with some hands on experience with them should chime in soon to confirm what I've said, or correct it. |

| reply to Three88bu I've been using my Xbox360 as a STB, but my Live account expires in two weeks. I called AT&T and said I needed a box installed in a room with no cables, and they're just shipping one out to me... no charge. It just jacks my monthly up like $7.
I never use the TV in my living room. I really just want to have a box I can seemlessly move between bedroom & living room |

Unlike most charges, the one-time $49 literally does not have any promotions on it, or ways to waive it. Someone could process a billing credit to "waive" it, but it will still appear on the bill even in that case. -- I am a U-verse tier 1 agent but I am not employed by AT&T. My posts should not be viewed as official AT&T communication. |

Believe me, if they charge me someone will receive a not-so-happy call. (And I do keep in mind that the person answering that call isn't the one who screwed me!) |

| reply to Three88bu I've had the wireless STB up and running for 2 days now. All I can say is if I had the chance I'd replace my other two reg STB's with one! The pros are not without a minor cons:
1) PRO: The box is 500% more responsive than the regular STB. It feels much more like navigating around the Xbox360 in terms of speed.
2) PRO: The wireless STB is up and running within minutes.
3) PRO: The range on the wireless STB is very, VERY good. I've hooked it up on two TV's. In my bedroom it has to go through 1 cinderblock wall, and 2 interior walls. In my living room it transmits through 2 cinderblock walls and 4 interior walls. It has full reception in each location.
4) CON: Sound lags behind video when tuning. Once you swap to a channel there an be ~3 seconds of silence. The picture does NOT freeze during this.
The wireless STB is also equipped with an ethernet port, and I want to see if it'll respond any differently using it. To be honest, I didn't need this box... I just do not want to renew my Xbox Live acct, and wanted a shiney new toy to tinker with |

| reply to Three88bu My wireless STB is DEAD! About 24 hours ago it started losing TV signal. The wireless signal was still excellent. The only way to recover was to unplug the box, and let it reboot.
Today I looked in the "troubleshooting and resolve" menu. On a good STB it would ask you what your problem is: no picture, no sound, etc. On my wireless STB it said "code 0" and a few messages saying it was unable to authenticate.
Tier-1 tried, but was unable to help. I was sent to Tier-2, and we tried a dozen different procedures to get it back up and running. In the end we went from losing TV signal randomly to a single red X shortly after restart.
Notes:
1) Unless there is some undocumented procedure to use the wireless boxes as wired boxes, it cannot be done. I've tried several ways to have it work on CAT5, and no dice.
2) Currently two wireless boxes will work on a single WAP. The current limit of wireless STB's per home is 2. |
