R2R NotPremium,MVM join:2000-09-18 Long Beach, CA kudos:1 | Linksys lost its SSID I have an one of those old blue linksys routers. It has a unique SSID and a security password. Today I came back and the network was down. Unplugged, replugged, etc. Nothing worked.
But now my Network name is no long displayed in the list of available networks. There is a generic linksys listed. Well, sign into it -- and it is my router, but it is no long broadcasting my name. Under basic setup / setup - the Router name is our correct old name. But under Wireless / Basic Wireless settings, the SSID is now Linksys - and the security was turned off.
How does this happen? How do I fix it?
Thanks. |

 | Sounds like the router was reset to its default settings. Re-do the setup the way it was and save. If it doesn't "stick" it may be time to get a replacement. |

Thanks. |

 | Sometimes electronics glitch out for absolutely no reason. As long as you replace your usual settings and they hold it was probably just some anomaly. An intruder would have done something more colorful than just factory the wireless settings while keeping your admin password intact. It wouldn't be a terrible time to bring your firmware revision current in case it's out of date. -- Scott Brown Consulting |

There was a storm here yesterday, but no lightening or power loss that I recall. May be it was those sunspots? Who knows, but thank you for the insight. |
