Jws21 join:2003-05-19 Erie, PA | Line of sight doubts I'm highly considering DirecTv but I'm having doubts on being able to receive service due to living in an older neighborhood with alot of trees. I've looked into dishpointer.com and I don't think it is much help. I have no idea where to put the dish and I dont have a tape measure to measure the trees in my area
I do not have a smart phone either.... wish I did now. any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
fwiw dishpointer info...

Sounds like you're making your conclusion while standing on the ground worrying about the trees. A vertical mount on the side of the house or a roof mount increase the odds proportionately that you may achieve line of sight over the trees. As suggested above, simply arrange for a site survey - and let the installer come up with the answer.

Jws21 join:2003-05-19 Erie, PA | I sure did but as mentioned with out knowing how high the dish would be placed at a location and the tree heights it's kinda hard to figure out. seems only option is to place an order and hope it works or find a smart phone to borrow |

 | reply to Jws21 Doesn't DirecTv offer a free site survey. Dish Network certainly does. |

| reply to Jws21 If you're not in too much of a hurry, have a flexible schedule, and some luck getting cloudless days, you can do what I did. Check their website for the sun outage times. For me the next one would be early March.
On that day and time, check to see how much sunlight you're getting in the area you want to put the dish. Don't forget to account for leafless trees.
It turned out that in my case there wasn't even close to being an issue, but this might not work if you're working with tight clearances. -- USNG: 16TDN2870 Find your USNG coordinates: USNGWeb |

| reply to Jws21 Here is a link to a solar outage calculator if you want to go that route to find the satellite's location:
