 | TWC QOS problems? I've got TWC's wideband (30/5 or so) in Manhattan. Speeds are great, sustained, no problems there.
The issues are: if I am connecting to a VPN (work) via one PC and using skype via another, i'll lose my connection to the internet. Everything dies and I have to reestablish connections.
The same things occurs when I am playing WoW and skyping at the same time.
I will get disconnects when not using skype, but less frequently. I've checked the modem when these disconnects occur; it looks like it just reset. One solid light, one blinking, then three blinking and one solid.
So i've talked to TWC a few times about this, they've come and checked my signals and everything is always peachy. I get the advertised speeds, I just can't hold on to a connection.
I've got the SBG6580 modem, set to bridge mode thanks to a L3 tech (TWC-NYC locks them down) and I've been using the same wireless-G router (buffalo WHR-HP-G54) that I've always had, no problems.
Really tired of this. I've been reading around and I'm thinking it's a QOS problem? skype always seems to knock me off no matter what I'm doing, and then I read that WoW 4.x uses packets similar to p2p network packets (BT i guess) and they're getting caught in QOS filters.
Also never had a problem with RCN; sadly they don't connect to my building. |

| It sounds like it may very well be an issue with the modem itself. In all the time I have been reading the forums and since that combo modem came out and the ubee version I have seen more threads with issues about the motorola one than the ubee one. Have you tried replacing the modem? If no see if you can get them to monitor your line for when it drops and such. Hobgoblin here on the forum might be able to help you but I only recall him being able to help people in the western half of new york state I think but still helps here on the forum. |

 | reply to MattInNYC I'm the OP, called tech support, they've got a new modem coming in a truck Friday. Hope this solves the issues. |

 | reply to MattInNYC Folks just left (two technicians) checked everything out. Didn't replace the modem because they found a cable splitter (#8) turned the wrong direction (they replaced it). Went upstairs to check out where the signal is coming in to the building.
Hopefully this fixes it. No idea if a cable splitter connected the wrong direction has any effect, they told me the return signal would be affected. |
