Speedtest Immed. After Restored to Factory Defaults
Have tried everything. Have called everyone. Would switch ISP, but am moving out of country in 5 months and would rather not pay for new modem/installation. I give up, please help.

3 Cox Technicians, 4 Supervisors, Brand New Everything > No fix. I've seen lots of people with the same problem on several forums, but no answers. What are we missing?

Modem : Motorola Surfboard SB5101N
Wireless Router : Linksys WRT120N (No Longer Using, bypassed)
Cox Speed Tier : Preferred 15 Mbps - (supposedly up to 18)
Avg Speeds : 0.5-1.5 Down 2.5-4 Up

-Splitters : None Originally, Now 1 four-way (Otherwise directly from street to my modem)
-Ping : 100% return every time (Couldn't figure Smokeping out)
-Tweaks : Don't know what these are, so probably none.

Additional Details :
-The Amp is just outside my house, on my street
-Approx. 70 yds from modem to lines/Amp
-Primary (only) Computer = Macbook
-Have tried iPhone & iPad over wireless > Same speeds as laptop
-Terrible cell phone service in house
-Shortly after restoring factory defaults, I got extremely high speeds > A day later they were back to terrible ones. (Same thing happened when we replaced modem)

Things Ruled Out :
-Replaced Modem
-Replaced drop all the way from house to street
-Ruled out router - same speeds wireless vs. direct ethernet
-Same problems with & without splitter (though did affect signal)
-Moved a subwoofer & Printer away from modem - not electromagnetic interference (I think...? Could the subwoofer have permanently damaged the modem?)

Signal Levels/Download Speeds/Log :

Have you tried a DOCSIS 3.0 modem to see if that fixes the problemb?

Too many of those when the modem isn't rebooting would indicate to me a problem with the Ethernet connection between the modem and the device connected. If you connect different devices to the modem as well as try swapping Ethernet cables and continue to see these you may have modem issues.

Re: Please Help! High Upload - Low Download speeds

Have not. Only the Surfboard that Cox replaced my other one with. I'll have them try it next time they're here, but I'm pretty sure I'd just switch ISP's before buying a more expensive modem. But this seems to be the primary solution to many Cox issues, is Cox providing modems that can't handle their own high speed internet?

Equipment does fail, that's why there are warranties. If yours is still under warranty you could try going that route if the steps I suggested above don't resolve anything.

Yea, I've actually tried a couple new ethernet cords to no avail. I've tried different cords with both a direct connection and a wireless router, if I have the same problem regardless, wouldn't that mean it's not the laptop, at the very least?

The Ethernet Link Up vs Dormant thing seems to happen nearly any time I don't use my computer for a while. The modem isn't rebooting though. The only thing that happens is the PC/Activity light goes out.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's the modem, which is why I'm having the guy try another one. Just confused as to how two different modems would have the same problem.

And to the rotating the tires and full moon thing...already tried it.
