THAT BEING SAID... I would think that he has given up his life, for the vampires will take him, or the mages will probably take him tonight. Especially since it looks like our protector role has already been killed.

Even if he is mafia, we have other ways to deal with them (like cops), so it's still in town's best interests to kill off the vampires. The third possibility is if he is the vampire creating other vamps. In that sense, then we need a way to verify his town claim (lie detector potion? etc.) but still need to kill off vampires.
