Huge Latency (Eastern Georgia)

Windstream - I sent you a private IM on this as well.

As of last night I've gone from 25ms ping, 11.29Mbps download and 10.14Mbps to

433ms ping, 0.20Mbps download and 0.54Mbps upload

It seems like this is not limited to my area as other forum posts indicate it coming from other parts of Georgia, Kentucky, and Texas.

Is there any ETA on the fix?

Same exact issues I've been having lately except I'm in Ohio. It was working for about half a day and its back to doing exactly what you're experiencing.

It may not be a Windstream issue. I did a trace route and the latency seems to be in the Level 3 network:

5 9 ms 9 ms 8 ms h88.72.102.166.static.ip.windstream.net [166.102.72.88]

6 323 ms 312 ms 313 ms xe-4-3-2.edge5.Atlanta2.Level3.net [4.59.12.53]

Our DNOC department is trying to work with Level3 to get that resolved. At the moment is seems to he a game of 'he said she said'. But we are working on it.

Well it seems to be somewhat fixed - I'm back down to 57ms and up to 2.97Mbps - far cry from 11Mbps though.

Based on your billing 3m is correct. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you

If you would like you can call the business office at 800-347-1991. They will either confirm or change your speed profile. I apologize for the confusion. But those are pretty decent ping times you are showing above.

@windstream.net

Same problem here for months now. No end in sight. As I type this at 10:34 pm in the MIDDLE GA area my latency is 400+. Just to recap, Ive done EVERYTHING possible. I will list everything to do. Note that Im a computer repairman with 10 yrs experience.

1.Checked computer for viruses, background programs, malware ,spyware, clean bill of health with updated and scanned EVERY day scanners.

2.Changed modem out.

3.Changed router out.

4.Changed lines out.

5.Had two different techs come out TWICE. Even though I told them my ping is usually 38/39 on the 6m plan they told me everything was fine.

6.Called tech support too many times to mention

7.Used online chat with specialist.

8.Had techs also check the DSLAM and other routing points.

The only time I can use the connection is from about 1 am to noon midday and even then its not optimal, just tolerable.

It is NOT ME. EVERY customer ( I have friends and relatives I got using Windstream ) has this problem. The only difference is our times of tolerable use are different. For example my nephew can only use his connection from noon to about 7pm.

This problem began a few months ago and my connection hasnt been the same since. Ive lost ALLOT of stuff ( prizes from competitive gaming ) and money ( since I cant use my EMI account ) because of this connection problem.

With so many people using different computers and configuration settings as well as hardware and the only thing in common is the connection, that pretty much narrows it down.

windstream, have the engineers found the issue causing this or are they turning thier heads to it. It would be nice if we could get a "we are aware of the issue and working to correct it" rather then pretending that everyone in the state of Georgia is not having the same issue..

thanks

As of this morning, Jan 28th, I've been encountering horrible latency in Warner Robins (middle Georgia). It was working fine last night, so something happened between now and then on your guys' end, or I'm getting throttled.

I am also in Warner Robins and I had a tech guy come out. He stated that Windstream is maxing out their system. I then got with Windstream's live chat system. Evidently there is an equipment issue in the Warner Robins area. Here is the info from the chat:

"I just spoke with my planner department and to fix that issue the dslam in your area will need to be changed, there is not an ETA of when it will be completed"

So they know what the problem is, they just don;t have an ETA. Pretty sad. I called my billing and they are going to credit my account. Not the fix I was looking for, so I may contact Comsouth to see if they can get me a decent connection.

This is my current read from speakeasy.net:
Download Speed: 781 kbps (97.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 626 kbps (78.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

I am supposed to have the 12meg service.
