 | [ps3] PS3 Speed and Duplex 10 vs 100? Hi there, my goal is always to optimize the ps3 as best as possible for first person shooter online play. So I have a question that has been in the back of my mind for a long time.
Which speed and duplex setting is better for online gaming? 10 vs 100?
As a lot of you may already know, online FPS don't take up much bandwidth. U-verse realtime reports that while playing BF3 there is maybe 50kbps going in and out and that is an over estimate. So using 10 or 100 isn't a problem there. While on the 10mbps setting, frames per second seem to smooth out and game play over all just seems much smoother. My best guess is that 10mbps isn't sucking up as much CPU usage. At 100mbps... well I don't know how to describe it. Everything runs fine, but things feel twitchy... The frame rate isn't as smooth and I seem to die more to lag while in 100mbps.
After doing pingtests in the ps3 internet browser, the ping time was lower with the 10mbps than the 100mbps. Lower by about 5ms-20ms. I only did two tests and I plan to try it again just to see if it wasn't a coincidence.
So far I'm convinced that 10mbps is much better for online play but I'd like to see what others say. Is there any major reason 100mbps is better that 10mbps? Obviously when I have to download a BIG patch or something I switch back to 100mbps because otherwise it would take much longer. |

 | Pingtests are the most important here, choose the settings with the lowest ping times, and that's all. |

 | reply to BigT6674 Im interested in seeing if theres any imporvement here with the duplex setting. Ive found that DMZing my PS3 and using a high quality router give me a damn fine experience but Im always interested if something can make it better. |
