wireless N speed or change adapter?

router asus n16

desktop is connected with a linksys N adaptor shows in windows as "300 Mbps" ... the highest large file transfer i get is 9 MB/s

i tried changing settings in the router (asus firmware) and nothing made it faster...

should i get another adapter ?

I think you need to do some more investigating. Try connecting your computer directly to your router (via cat5) and try the same test to see what your result is. If it's significantly higher then you need to look at how you have the wireless part of the router configured and what other wireless devices are connecting to it, etc.

9 MB/s = 72 Mbps

so if you want to improve ur performance describe where U placed ur n16 and the location of your linksys N adaptor plus which model is the Linksys N adapter and are U using other wireless gear like mouse/keyboard 2.4Ghz phones, Bluetooth gear nearby?

What is your CPU utilization during the wireless transfer? On older or less powerful platforms 100% is not unheard of when driving a wireless net and will limit your network traffic.
