Even $16 a month for both services that is a steal compared to even the cheapest cable TV or satellite offering. Even better the CEO even took some of the blame for the fallout and took corrective action to try and fix it.
Contrast this to other service providers which continually raise prices, even far more than what NetFlix did, and laugh off any customer revolt. -- "Net Neutrality" zealots - the people you can thank for your capped Internet service. |

It brings to mind how investors halted Verizon's fiber expansion due to short sighted gains in wireless.
I don't think I'd take a company public right now. |

 | reply to pnh102 60% is not a "modest" increase. True, cable TV increases rates like crazy, but that's just as unacceptable. Another modest increase and Netflix will be at $30...and then $50. |

| reply to pnh102 It is likely that small percent of people that "knee jerked" at the fact: netflix raised it's price! Wait, its not that much. (some marketing guy sits back, "just wait...give it a few months, it will settle and rebound"...
However, you read about movie tix price increase? Or how content to Netflix (and Redbox) is going to increase in delay to release?
Latest on Netflix is "I told you they should start making their own content" and I was right. From House of Cards, to bringing back Arrested Development, to other "projects" in the works. Although I wish they would buy Gamefly and put gaming into the mix, the future is streaming, so why waste $.
Anyone else try Redbox and never get what you wanted? Or how there is a line to the machine? And how there are some "questionable" individuals hanging out near the ones outside? -- Splat |

| Its convenient and still relatively inexpensive and better content than available on on demand usually. When it gets out of control expense wise I would just drop it. It still has a value for me and thats all that matters to me. -- I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I meant. Nixon |

Another modest increase and Netflix will be at $30...and then $50. Up until recently Netflix has charged the same price, or lower, for their entire business run. I started with them from the very beginning, and this is the very first time prices ever increased. Not only that the reasons for that increase were very public. When your licensing costs more than double don't you think you need to start raising your rates?
Besides what are you complaining about? You put out this big 60% number, but in the end all we are talking about is Netflix is finally charging for something (from a business perspective) they shouldn't have given away to begin with. And technically the 60% price hike is a misconception. DVD rentals never went up in price. Streaming only never went up in price. The only change is no more buy one service, get the other free. |
