NASA TV

Why does Charter refuse to carry NASA TV?
Plus its -»www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/faq.html

==================================================
"The NASA TV Public, Education, and HD channels are "free-to-air," meaning your cable or satellite service provider can carry each at no cost."

NASA Television is actually four accessible digital channels:

NASA Public features coverage of NASA missions and events, plus documentaries, archival and other special programming. This is the "NASA TV" most often carried by cable and satellite service providers.

NASA Education provides programming to schools, educational institutions and science museums.

NASA Media provides coverage of news conferences and relevant video and audio materials to national and international news-gathering organizations.

NASA HD provides high-definition imagery from science and human spaceflight missions and special events that can be carried and used by cable and satellite service providers and national and international news-gathering organizations.

That said why do they refuse to carry the nationwide WGN in mid michigan?

I recall asking about those before at the local office and what I saw was she rolled her eyes back and said something of, 'Oh we get asked about those channels A LOT!"

For reference, Nasa TV - »www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html

Even funnier is in Bay City where I live we don't have WGN but I work in Tawas which is an hour and a half north and we get it here. Makes absolutely no sense.

I gave up on Charter adding NASA. Luckily I get it through my Roku box which in a roundabout way, Cherter is giving me since I use the internet supplied by Charter to get it. lol

Re: NASA TV / WGN

But all surrounding areas do, i.e. clare, sanford, saginaw, alma-st.louis, we all even have the same channel lineups too.

Re: WGN

Thanks !
They've never have offered wgn at all.
I also can add its not just Bay City, Its also Midland MI as well.

In Bay City, ch. 25 has nothing at all, last I recall was the weather channel years ago. Below I input zipcodes in all the surrounding area of Bay City and Midland. I couldnt find any Charter served city that didnt carry it besides Bay City-Midland.

Your welcome to copy-paste!

Re: NASA TV

And here's what I got:
Hi Jeff, we have the answer:

To explain why WGN is not carried in your area, we would like to offer a bit of background. Historically, we have never carried WGN in the Bay City area. WGN is a Chicago station, which Holland is closer to. We evaluate customer demand using many different sources including customer requests as part of our decision-making process. WGN has not been considered a "must have" for the Bay City area up to this point, however, we have passed along your feedback so that the necessary data can be sent to Corporate Marketing for future consideration.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to assist.

Thanks,
Abby

My response to that:

That doesn't make much sense considering what I've heard from others and experienced myself. Midland and Bay City are the only ones in this area that don't have it. Saginaw does and where I work in East Tawas has it. East Tawas is miniscule compared to Bay City so it doesn't make any sense as to how it's a "must-have" everywhere else in this state that you serve, but not in Midland and Bay City.

A couple of years ago WGN split into 2 channels. The WGN which would be for locals in Chicago and WGN America for the rest of the country. WGN America is what everyone around here has due to the fact we aren't in Chicago.

we should all watch the nasa tv hd stream on or computer when charter calls about going over cap say you was watching nasa tv in hd on internet since cant watch it on tv

however more serious problem is that even if there free to air doesnt mean that is no expense for charter some areas lack the bandwith to carry more channels and also not all of charter offices have dishes aimed in the direction needed to pick up nasa tv sattlite feed

Re: WGN

Yeah that answer is all of what I have ever received... talking to a wall. Future consideration... well its not gonna happen then.
I really said is true when I have gone into the local charter office when I paid my bill and asked about it a few times, again it is the ole' "we get asked about that all the time!" reply.
Something just doesnt seem right or add up here.

I saw on an advertising site during this time, --> "WGN America, available nationally in more than 73 million homes" »brandedcontent.adage.com/cablegu···hp?id=33
73 million households, hmm I guess thats why, it must not be a popular channel!

Plus the fact of same channel lineups (almost) we still pay the same amount, with those package deals!

If based on customer demand... we really demanded... I.e. two 24 hr commercial channels? Seriously?! ch. 87 & ch. 5.

Also based on my previous post of areas - all the way around us they get it, but not Midland or Bay City. Distances: »www.geobytes.com/CityDistanceTool.htm

Charter Communications - Mount Pleasant Channel 25
Charter Communications – Clare Channel 25
Charter Communications – Sanford Channel 25 (10 miles from Midland)
Charter Communications - Kawkawlin Channel 25 (8 miles from Bay City)
Charter Communications – Oscoda Channel 20
Charter Communications - AU Gres Channel 20
Charter Communications – Alma Channel 25
Charter Communications – Saginaw Channel 25
Charter Communications – Hemlock Channel 25
Charter Communications - West Branch Channel 25
Charter Communications - Vassar Channel 15

You have to take into consideration the millions of households in the Chicago area that get WGN not WGN America so they probbaly aren't counted. Heck you can get in WGN via OTA if you live in that area.

The statement says " WGN America" not the OTA.

This is what I have received from WGN in an email, he states charter was offered it countless times ! :

As I stated, WGN America has been offered to Charter Communications for those cities. Unfortunately, Charter Communications has not chosen to carry WGN America.

Thanks again for writing.

George

----------------

Unfortunately when you say "WGN America has been offered countless times to Charter Communications for those cities." That is defiantly not true at all for where I am at. I have been a Charter customer ever since they took over from Bresnan Communications and I was with Bresnan all along as well.

Main thing is in all that time since the mid- 1980's WGN has NEVER been offered in the Midland or Bay City MI area.

----------------------------------------

According to our Manager of Affiliate Sales, WGN America has been offered countless times to Charter Communications for those cities. We will do our best to try and get it launched but that the best thing you can do is to continue calling Charter and asking for WGN America. Charter customers have much more of a voice than we do.

As our website states, WGN America is also available on DIRECTV at www.DIRECTV.com(800-DIRECTV), DISH Network at www.DishNetwork.com(888-825-2557), AT&T U-verse at www.ATT.com/UverseTV(800-PICK-ATT), and Verizon FiOS at www.verizon.com/fiostv(888-591-6075).

Thanks for writing.

George
