Our transition is next month so I hope everyone is ready.
I don't know of a single person Whois aware of it other than who I told
(We have a lot of old people in my town) with console type tv's
Wish they'd kill 2-22 as well

when is the transition going to occur in the Brookings, SD area?

I wish they'd ditch 10-22 as well as all the digital SD stations and just have them in HD only. Regular sets will still translate the signal fine. Free up as much bandwidth as possible.

Our marketing group has done a good job so far keeping this page up to date during the digital transitions in various markets.

Mediacom has really been catching up in a big way in their all-digital markets to the bigger cable companies.

Down around Mobile, AL, they're over 110 HD channels when you count the local affiliates and sports. I know they have 104 without them.

I am not sure what you mean by "regular sets." But in my opinion, you can't expect everyone to upgrade every household, let alone every television in a household, to new digital HD sets. Only they have the ability to adjust to the full-range of possible signal types. And while there are low-cost HD DTAs (as opposed to the more sophisticated HD DVRs and STBs) that are slowly becoming available, there is also a huge number of SD STBs and DTAs that would be a big investment to just junk. Finally, HD signals take up a huge amount of space relative to SD signals. One can have lots of SD signals for those that need them, and only take up a very small space as compared to that would be necessary to have everything HD. So I don't see it, nor would hope, for all SD to get replaced by HD signals, regardless of how nice HD can potentially be.

SDTV can certainly tune HD channels, they just downconvert. How do you think that SDTV of yours can tune in to 9.1 over the air? How about all those $40 DTA converter boxes they sold???

Those $40 DTAs are converting digital 480i to NTSC analog, stuff that Mediacom is providing already as digital at that resolution. They are not downconverting or cropping 720p or 1080i HD signals. Apparently there are newer models that will, but that is not what is being put in the field by Mediacom at this time.

If you mean OTA conversion of ATSC HD signals - that is true, an SDTV or the converters sold the year before last with the OTA shift to digital - they can convert. But that will not help one connected to cable and needing to convert QAM.

You must know alot of people who don't watch tv or read their mail. I got complaints here that "I got one of those notices in the mail every week" "That commercial is always on" If you don't know about it, you weren't paying any attention. Hell, I am an employee and got 3 letters.
