Although performance is increasing, sometimes I get the feeling (no singing), that the wifi and networking industry is like the TV industry.... hmmm lets get them to buy the new fangled HIDEF1080i, then 1080p. Just as they have unloaded their wallets so the screaming kids have the latest will hit them with 3D.
So glad they have fallen flat on their faces with that one. Sometime theyre going to come out with Mega Wifi, and everyone will ignore it,,,, |

 | Any changes in the areas of security or range with these new offerings? |

AnavSarcastic Llama? Naw, Just AcerbicPremium join:2001-07-16 Dartmouth, NS kudos:3 | reply to mozerd The real question is will it have critical consumer mass. If the smartphones of any ilk and tablets and laptops all miraculously are changed to ac, then perhaps this will fly. Otherwise it will be a niche market for businesses that can afford it or geeks that spend too much time here, to boast about how fast their wifi is. And No strings luv that olive!! |

I suspect that a great deal more information will be forthcoming by the late spring of this year .... I suspect that some [possibly TRENDnet] will be hitting the market faster although Buffalo and Netgear may not be far behind so an explosion of information is more or less imminent. I do know that we are about to see an explosive demand for HD streaming product [and where multi-user MIMO has its greatest impact] to take-on and/or support IPTV in competition with the incumbent cable TV providers and the Whole Home TV market. -- David Mozer IT-Expert on Call Information Technology for Home and Business |

To drop all previous purchases to buy new is just not realistic. Catch 22, without volume, price will remain high. |

The iPhone and the iPad are new toys and even in the poor American economy those products selling at PRIMIUM prices in this poor US economy are breaking sales records consequently blowing your argument out of the water.
I suspect that HD streaming to multiple users where each stream is very different will be very attractive to a large group of consumers so gear that enhances this experience will be quite popular even in a relatively poor economy and if OBAMA loses the election -- the American economy will go gang-busters. -- David Mozer IT-Expert on Call Information Technology for Home and Business |

AnavSarcastic Llama? Naw, Just AcerbicPremium join:2001-07-16 Dartmouth, NS kudos:3 | Well the IPAD is a new toy!! A faster router is still a router and not new. As for the Iphone, you are talking a personal item that people caress all day long its so sickening. No one touches and fondles their router 24-7. So stop comparing apples to oranges.
Oh and I might add none of those IPhones and Ipads are AC compatible.....
So I call it A6....... HIT and SUNK your battleship. |

Actually the iPhone and the iPad are LUXURY goods but sell in the millions in the USA ... they are not essential items. The 802.11ac gear will also be LUXURY goods designed to appeal to the same crowd [millions] of people so take that you maritimer. -- David Mozer IT-Expert on Call Information Technology for Home and Business |

decxPremium join:2002-06-07 Vancouver, BC | It's going to take a little while before 802.11ac support start appearing in mainstream devices. Even at present most 802.11n devices don't make full use of 802.11n. Many notebooks still only support the 2.4GHz band and support for triple stream is still rare. |
