Seems to me that the cable industry is protecting the wrong part of the business. That increase in profits can't be totally explained by just rate increases or upgrading to higher tiers. They should be selling uncapped broadband service with extreme speeds to encourage new streaming customers. Maybe even have their own streaming services. This way they can sell a more personalized tv experience to their customers and get higher profits. |

Most other people want lower cost "good enough" services. An easy to get cheap broadband tier with "good enough" speeds should attract a lot of customers, particularly those who are still hanging on to DSL.
Maybe even have their own streaming services. This way they can sell a more personalized tv experience to their customers and get higher profits. They'd need the studios to license content. Won't be cheap. |
