[Xtreme] Downgraded in speed after porting number over....

Hello, I was an At&t phone and dsl 3.0 customer for years with at&t. I recently ported my number over to my cell phone service so I can go mobile. I've had a horrible experience with At&t customer service since then. First off, they cut off my internet service. Then I immediately called At&t and they restored my dsl service at a lower speed. It was 1.5 dsl ultra. I asked the rep why has my speeds dropped and he informed me that 3.0 isnt available in my area. I told them I just had 3.0 dsl service. Then he went on to tell me that someone in my neighborhood could have taken my slot in the dslam port. I responded by saying how did someone in my small neighborhood coincidentally take my spot within minutes of my service being dropped? 3.0 was already slow by todays standards. 1.5 dsl is like having dial up in todays market. Is there anyone I can contact that will help me out with this issue. Who should I talk to?

Unfortunately for those who live in areas where AT&T DSL is the only option, this is a fairly common practice.

AT&T is only interested in U-verse and wireless, and if those two products are not available to you (or not really suitable in the case of wireless), then they really don't want you as a customer. Actually they don't really want to keep U-verse in its current distribution model because they want to get entirely out of the wired telco business. Their ultimate game plan is to deliver the "last mile" over a wireless connection to everyone (and if you aren't near enough to a wireless tower to get decent service, that is your problem).

The only suggestion I can offer (if another ISP is not available to you) is to post your situation in the »AT&T Direct forum (I think you may need to create a DSLR account before you can post in that forum).

Yes, I guess that I should not have abbreviated, and should have instead just said "an account on this site", but it seems you got what I meant anyway. The reason for needing an account on this site is because the »AT&T Direct forum is a secure forum and only the person who creates a thread (and of course the AT&T techs) can access your thread. There would be no way to do that with an anonymous post.

The techs who monitor that forum may not be able to help, but generally, they have a pretty good track record for being able to cut through red tape.
