| As usual Karl hates AT&T But AT&T should be slamming the FCC for their disaster of a labyrinthine process for buying spectrum that killed the AT&T&T deal, and has cut the spectrum up into so many little pieces, and ended up with a lot of it owned by spectrum squatters who don't own or operate networks. |

PaladinSage of the light join:2001-08-17 Chester, IL | reply to BiggA Well that, and AT&T is not complaing about current capacity, they are complaining they don't have the spectrum to meet future needs. The T-Mobile deal, for all its flaws, was never advertised as an immediate spectrum relief fix. |

PaladinSage of the light join:2001-08-17 Chester, IL | reply to Simba7 What spectrum are they hoarding? The 700 and AWS they aren't yet using? They can only deploy LTE at so many areas at a time. Did they get caught with their pants down? Yes. However, that doesn't answer the lack of spectrum in the future going past 2013. What does AT&T do when spectrum is used past 2013? |

| reply to BiggA Really?
Last I checked, the "spectrum squatters" have sold their spectrum to more useful companies. Or the biggest squatter, SPectrumCo, anyway...that AWS slice-of-airwaves now belongs to Verizon. Who will sit on it for a year or two, then do something cool with it.
What about the other spectrum that's being squatted upon? Probably owned by T-Mobile, who will do something useful with it if they're in an urban area, not so much if the area is rural. Hopefully they'll sub-licnse it to people like CellularOne or Viaero Wireless... |

| reply to Paladin Exactly.
@iansltx: There are still a bunch of unheard-of companies like Triad broadcasting out there that own chunks of SMH. Triad is a radio station company, and they bought up junk scraps of SMH. There are many others. SpectrumCo actually did want to build-out, but they did the right thing when they realized it was not feasible for them. However, they are still squatting on some SMH. |
