 | home previously setup for uverse...need setup for dsl I called At&t to have dsl service installed at our place. They came and did the work outside to the box on side of the house, but left a note on our door explaining that our house was previously wired for U-verse and they may need to get inside to rewire the jacks for dsl.
When I called them up to setup a time for this to be done, they said it would cost 85.00.
Is this something I can do myself? If so how difficult of a task is it? |

 | Is there a difference in how the phone jacks are wired for DSL vs UVerse?
I was told by someone today (just watercooler talkin with a tech guy) that my jacks should still be wired as standard phone jacks - that there is no difference in how a phone jack is wired for dsl or for uverse. Is this incorrect? |

|
 | We do not have att voice service. Just directv which is what I bundled this with. I ordered the cheapest dsl package, I believe it was 3Mbps package. The modem I have is a D-Link DSL-2320B. |

A picture of the inside of the nid would be helpful |

|
 | reply to wayjac ok took a few pics of the nid: »i43.photobucket.com/albums/e378/···5aa6.jpg »i43.photobucket.com/albums/e378/···e607.jpg
and behind the wall jacks inside: »i43.photobucket.com/albums/e378/···fd7f.jpg »i43.photobucket.com/albums/e378/···f53b.jpg
I am not sure about VoIP with uverse as we just moved into this place and it was prev owner that had uverse. |

|
wayjacPremium,MVM join:2001-12-22 Indy kudos:1 | reply to shartski You should take the modem to the nid each of the modules will open up and reveal a rj11 jack one of the modules will have the dsl signal
Connect the modems dsl port to each test jack when the dsl light glows steady that will indicate which module has the dsl signal
The surface mounted wall jack looks like it has a orange/white wire pair and it looks like one of the cables in the nid also has a orange/white wire pair
If you connect the orange/white wire pair to the nid module that has the dsl signal you'll have dsl at that wall jack |

 | reply to dingo i have tried all jacks in house except for the one mounted to the baseboard. |
|
 | reply to wayjac ok I'm working on opening the box to reveal the modules but there's a special kind of Allen screw with a point on the center holding the door shut and I'm not sure I have the right tool to open it. |

 | reply to shartski here is the jack in living room: »i43.photobucket.com/albums/e378/···abfd.jpg |

That side of the NID is the teleco's. You don't need to get in there, and that's why you don't have the right tool. |

 | reply to wayjac Thanks for all the help, guys! It was raining pretty hard last night so I wasn't able to try anything with the NID, but I did try the outlet upstairs and it worked!
It looks like every jack in the house is wired differently. Why would they do that?
I'm just glad there's 1 that works. |

I'm guessing somewhere along the line the house you're in had a second line. If you take another outlet and move the yellow/black to the red green of the face plate I bet it would work. |

| reply to Shartski Your pic of the guts in the NID shows a splitter & it's not a VDSL balun for uverse, it was prev used for ADSL there.
The pic of your baseboard jack shows an orange/white pair dedicated there, while that homerun is also visible in the NID, be willing to bet that's the pair connected to the data port on that splitter. That baseboard jack is the location in the house where your DSL modem will sync. Any other jack in the house either will not work or will sync up degraded & will cause noise on your landline, if you are using it for voice.
Just rewire from that splitter outside either directly to the network EBN (the orange & gray thingee) or just directly to the data port on that splitter. No need to even mess w/ the jacks inside. |
