As an odd coincidence, after I bought my first house I got spanked big time for unexpected expenses. Legal fees went up, lawn mower, rakes, hose, furnace filters, all kinds of little shit came out of the woodwork I didn't see coming. Total was about $2500.

I know you Canadians do things differently but maybe move your pool from the living room to outside the house.

He is probably among the many thousands with more and more being added every day who do not use Cogeco's email addresses at all, and instead uses Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail or his own online service for email. As a result, he probably never got the notices. I, for example, use my first name @ my last name.com for an email address hosted on Google Apps. I haven't touched Cogeco email since the early 2000s.

Cogeco should be forced into providing a method to supply an alternate email address to send these notifications.

I'm the same, when I was on Rogers I never used their email sever, I too have my own domain, with Distributel they have my domain account in case they need to get in touch.

Rogers never asked, or they have have set up an account I never used, and was full of their crap.

I belive the OP that he didn't get notice.
When I saw this post earlier this morning, I emailed my kid sister who lives in Elora which is serviced by Cogeco (big change from unlimited 3Web in Toronto).

These were her replies :

Last I checked they charged a maximum of $10 for going over. I'll check again.

They changed it those bastards and they didn't even let anyone know!!! Fuckers! I hate Cogeco!

She has her own domain, and her husband has a yahoo account, and guess what? No notice.

We use our home connection for several business reasons. But there's no way I would sign up for Cogeco Business. If this company would gleefully charge a user several thousands of dollars in overage... its just a matter of time before they start billing business customers.

The regulatory environment is completely different. Furthermore, Bell doesn't charge any overages on business accounts, so it's unlikely that Cogeco ever will. Business clients are also a lot more likely to kick up a stink and sue another company if they feel they're being wronged.

So really, I think we're safe. At least for the foreseeable future and so long as Bell and the CRTC operate the way they do, anyway.
