Does Starz HD On Demand look different to anyone else?

Just fired up Zookeeper on Starz HD On Demand (don't judge me), and it looks different to me than when watching the Starz HD live feed. I'm not sure what the correct term is, but it appears slightly "jumpy" on long panning shots, almost like interlacing artifacts. In fact, it reminds me of how the On Demand used to look when we first got uverse back in late 2009, but shortly after something got changed or upgraded and the On Demand looked indistinguishable from the live feed.

Anyhow, just wondering if I'm going crazy or if anyone else is noticing this. I can see it on two different sets, one a CRT and one a LCD.

no problems here, it could be a temporary issue, are you still having it? In most cases HD ondemand looks better then live TV in my case.

Thanks for responding. Yes I still see it, it looks like it is tied to the newest Starz On Demand offerings. I see the artifacts on new content like Zookeeper, Bad Teacher and Prom. But if I go back and select Battle: Los Angeles, it does not have the artifacts. I've also checked a recent HBO HD On Demand offering (Sanctum) and I *don't* see the problem there.

I don't have any idea how the On Demand content is stored or distributed, but if you don't see the problem I wonder if I am getting the content delivered through some hardware (upstream at ATT's end) that is new or has been rebooted into some different state. Who knows.

I know you have better things to do, but if you have the time, could you fire up, say, Zookeeper and then Battle: Los Angeles and see if you notice any difference? You won't see it in still shots, but when there is motion, either panning or someone walking through a shot, you can see a slight jerkiness in the motion.

Thanks again.

More than likely - you are seeing what we've seen on FIOS TV for over a year now. It's an issue with the source - Starz.

For example - if you are watching a show - and say, they pan across the screen - it almost gets jerky and smeary.

It's hit or miss on if you'll see it - but that sounds like it. And yes, Starz HD VOD is the ONLY place you'll see this.

Watched bad teacher lastnight ondemand HD Uverse and saw exactly what you are talking about. Must be a encoding error on Starz end.

Thanks for the responses. Makes me feel better. I've noticed a few other things: 1) It appears on the SD On Demand content as well, and 2) It is showing up on the Encore offerings as well, but I realize that Starz/Encore are related.

So, is there anything we can do about this? Pass it along to Tier 2?
