refurb hard drives any good ?

I am constrained of my 320 GB rad 1 setup. Is buying refurbished drives a bad idea?

depends who's they are and what kind of warranty you can get with em.

I've had a couple in the past with no issues but then again, your mileage may vary depending how you intend to use or abuse them.

BTW, the Refurb's I've used in the past only hold data that I can live without........ I used to put swap space and spool space on referbs.

Those prices seem quite high for old, used drives, especially considering the very limited warranty. Not worth it, IMO.

How much more space do you need? What budget do you have? $80-$90 will get you a new 500GB drive with 3 year warranty.

I am using this with 3 320 GB hard drives.

2 in raid 1 and one more is spare mode.

I have a feeling it's going to be an expensive upgrade to use 1 TB drives.

I've had refurb drives last longer than bought new drives. But all drives come with the risk of failure.

I had a drive fail on me last year in fact, one that was a gift. I too can't afford a new drive, but fortunately, if my storage drive doesn't fail, I am ok, my main problem is I don't have a large external storage drive.

I got a refurb off of woot one time that was setup as a dynamic disk when I got it...

Aside from warranty, which varies from vendor to vendor anyway. Reliability is not an issue. The last time that I saw the stats released, they were equal if not better on refurbs (failure rates).
