[Internet] Slow speed after 2WIRE update

Hello.

My modem is a 2WIRE 2701HG-G. I'm on the Bell's FIBE 7 service. Recently my 2WIRE's GUI has been updated... I don't know where that update came from since I never manually updated the firmware or anything. In any case, I've noticed that ever since that update occurred all my Internet browsing is much slower than it used to be.

None of my browser settings were changed. I also tried accessing the same sites with other browsers and they're all slow. For instance, going on CNN.com takes anywhere between 8 to 12 seconds, whereas it used to be almost instantaneous before, or trying to check my mails by going on Hotmail.com takes about that same amount of time. These are just two examples, all my browsing takes a lot of time to do.

I've had a quick look at my 2WIRE settings, and I believe that only its interface was updated, although I'm not 100% sure about that. What is strange is that accessing the modem's configurations is pretty much instant and fast. But browsing the Internet is much slower. The same thing happens when trying to watch videos on YouTube.com for example, even trying to load the videos at the lowest quality takes a lot of time.

I made sure that my browsers are not using Proxies (and they are not using any Proxy). I also used the 2WIRE's Diagnostics option, and the result indicates that everything is " UP ". I've also tried to reboot (using the "Resets" option) the home networking modem, which didn't fix the slow speeds/high latency problems I'm experiencing. I'm not sure what I can do since I don't know much about modems and internet connections in general. I do know that Bell is using PPoE connections and that part of the diagnostics is alright, it says it's " UP ", like all the rest.

EDIT: I have also verified the line speed itself via Bell's speed check (by enter my phone number). The results indicate that the line speed is good, about as fast as it should be. The download speed is 6.25 Mbps, and the upload speed is at 658 Kbps. If there's a problem then it's probably something related to the browser settings, or the 2WIRE's settings.

I would appreciate some help to solve my slow Internet speed problem, please. Thank you everyone.

Hi, I just opened my modem's settings page and my firmware seems to be updated as well. However, I did not notice any changes in the connection or browsing speed. I just ran a speed test (used bell's speedtest and speedtest.net), and I am still getting the full 12Mb download and about 0.700Mb upload.

Have you tried rebooting your router? Just unplug the power cable for 10 seconds and then put it back in.

When my modem updated, it actually lowered my latency. When you are testing this are you on wifi? lots of wifi networks around? are there other people on your network? All things to be considered when testing latency. one thing you can do is set your pc to be out of the application support and then that would give you a definitive test to see if its the router or the line.
