Yeah. And here I thought getting a $1000+ bill for one month of internet was impossible.
I'm making arrangements for DSL and cutting my Cogeco, ASAP.
I simply cannot do business with a company that pulls stuff like that. Period.

With all of this bleating going on, I guess I'd better read the article. BTW, I just checked my Cogeco usage meter and it says ZERO in both directions for the past 3 days. NOT TRUE, I can assure. So does this mean that their meter is (still) busted ? Could it also err in the upward direction ? Could they revise these ZEROES later on ? OK, I'll read the piece.... » [Burloak] Usage Based Billing NightmareEDIT : BTW, Karl is onto this too : » Cogeco User Socked With Thousands in Overages [96] comments |

Why a matter of time? I've had a ~$650 overage bill with Videotron in 2000... back then, Videotron was billing $20/GB extra. Overage bills are not exactly new, what did change is that it is easier to make a story about it today. |

This was a service change and the person never received a letter about it. The amount in question ($2400) is quite large. I'm sorry to hear about your experience. |

During my first trips to australia, I used "Canada Direct" to modem back to my server via long distance. The rates were cheap. The 3rd time, I did the same and when I got home, I got a huge surprise in the Bell phone bill. Canada Direct no longer had affordable rates.
It took some calling, but I eventually got someone to admit that contrary to what I had been told, they statemeht that they had meant to insert in all the bills hadn't actually been inserted by the telcos. So I had no way to know of the major change in biling practices. (Previously, you were charged the rate as if you had dialed to australia from home, inlcuding any long distance package that was attached to your home phone, they removed this and charged full per minute "rack" rate. (aka: the maximum rate)
I don't recall how much I negitiated the price down though. But I had them look at my history ofr the same months the previous years to see that I had used Canada Direct just as much and how much it had costed me. |

Who would be dumb enough to "support" Cogeco? They're by far the worst. |

Some ISP's have done nothing for people out west yet, put plan to (Shaw/Telus land). Some ISP's have been struggling for months with Rogers. Some ISP's (ahem Ebox) want to break into Rogers land while the problems are quite obvious. Personally, I think Ebox can tweak out a niche if they hit Cogeco land before Rogers land. BUt do they want to be first and go against a possible nightmare like what Rogers turned out to be? So yeah, Cogeco is at the bottom of the dung heap. |
