There isn't a way to specifically block channels; even the ones that are subscription based. You can set up favorite channel lists from the cable box menu though.

Seems like there should be away to update the guide (via a software update) to show what packages a customer has, and only display those channel's
My sister has DirecTV and the guide for it, displays channel's "greyed out" and I believe Dish network displays them in red.
Setting up a favorite list for ALL the channel's will take time.

Actually Echostar supports show only subbed and also you can create a favorite list and it will only show those. Was my favorite part about having 'ol Charlie at the house was that you could lock that down. No way to do it with Mediacom though.

I like DirecTV's Favorites lists. Once set up, you don't have to see the adult channels, the infomercial channels (they have a bunch), or any others you don't want.

The swap button on Mediacom's DVR is nice. Easy to swap between tuners and not worry about messing up a recording.

Why would they do that if it entices people to upgrade their service if they see something on they want to watch?

See that's the problem, I don't WANT to see the adult channel's or anything else OTHER then what I am subscribed to.
I have the HD boxes for the Network HD + the music channel's and the guide only.
No use for anything else.

not to mention, when your channel surfing and you hit one of those "not authorized" channels the box's lag badly. it was an extreme annoyance

If anything needs to be upgraded in the box firmware when you select a channel your not paying for is to program the box to automatically take you back to the previous channel after you see the your not authorized to view this channel.

And speaking of cable box firmware, when is Mediacom going to upgrade the speed of the guide data filling in after the box loses power. As an example, I moved our Motorola DCX 3400 the other day and it took OVER FIFTEEN hours for the 14 days of guide data to reload, and it was the local channel data that seemed to fill in last.

Yeah that's not going to happen. It's advertising. Over the years I have heard that question many times.
