wtf is going on with my internet

i live near ottawa and have the performance plan, so i'm supposed to get 6 mbps downlaod speed, but it really fluctuates during the day e.g. i'm at 1.1 mbps download right now. i try resetting the modem and set my computer to dmzplus mode but my internet speed still sucks.

i called bell but they were no help help. bell sucks!!!!!

Try asking in Bell Direct for your line stats and if anything can be done:»Bell Canada Direct

If you have telephone service (POTS) on the same line as your DSL service have you noticed any noise (hum, hiss, buzzing, crackling, etc.), if so it would point to an issue with the phone line itself. If that is the case it is better to call 611 to have the line inspected first.

Where are you located near Ottawa? I have the same issues and I am east of Ottawa in Plantagenet Just wondering if you were close to me.. I have very high latency times usually at night but the garbage speeds are at all times of the day.

I would suspect a line problem. I live outside of Ottawa also and my speeds have been relatively stable (upload at 6.03 and download at .650). However for years I had a latency issue. Pings were averaging 125 ms and sometimes much more. A month ago while doing routine maintenance in my area, Bell discovered a severely corroded underground cable which they had to replace. Since then, my latency has greatly improved (average ping is now 15 ms). Speed has remained stable.

well i am close to you then boostnek96. and right now now Bell internet is barely usable. I must say i have never had problems before and been with them since 1995.
But today i have speeds of 0.40/0.90 dl, and 0.60/0.80 up.

I noticed a change in september evenings, but not every night. I figured everyone was watching Netflix. But it has been getting worse and lately it's very bad. Right now PS3 is unusable.

A simple 22mb update took 40 minutes saturday, and last night the PS3 can't even connect. Yes, it's all wired.

currently awaiting help in dsldirect....

this is what i have at home, going on since saturday. internet is unusable. PS3 is unusable, you can't even pop a game in that needs an update.
just checked our business line down the road, DL was 1.89, UL at 0.39.. a bit better but still.

I'm in Chatham and been having ongoing issues since last Sunday. It's better now, but I'm still getting the occasional timeout and error message. Tech was out here last Monday and said everything was fine, line test OK, modem synch OK, but I digress. I'm still maintaining they've got a bad server/router somewhere.

I should mention that my speeds are back to normal today. I did call a Bell tech last night and he said he was trying stuff on my line. (i'm not sure what they do) Anyway, the speeds were not changing. He transferred me to a higher tech who simply said Fibe work is being done in my area so i might see some odd results untill work is done.
I kinda believe it i guess. I know some major work was being done in November/december along the highway, but that stopped when the ground froze. Unless the work he mentions is at the CO building now doing upgrades..

Anyway, about an hour after the talk with Bell the connection got steadily better and now i'm back to 6mb/s.

the best way rto get support from bell is to press 2 for french....theu dont speak french in india or spain...if you dont speak french find sombody that does. your dealing with bell will so much improve if you deal with them in french

But they do speak french in Morocco, which is where I believe they've started outsourcing now.
