 | [Cable] Help switching from Rogers Extreme Plus to TekSavvy My family and I have been Rogers customers since the early days of cable. After well over 10 years of paying through the nose for so-so service, I'm fed up Rogers complacency, their attitudes towards their customers, privacy, their competition, throttling, etc. have pushed me over the edge. I'm ready to cancel and go to TekSavvy.
The only thing that's stopping us from making the switch are concerns about changing the status quo. Both my parents have online accounts registered with Rogers email addresses; they're avid computer users but neither are the most technical people in the world. One of them runs a business from home which depends on having fast, reliable Internet access. I'm eager to make the switch to TekSavvy, but they're worried that it might be a hassle or lead to problems and/or temporary loss of Internet access.
I'm looking for a bit of reassurance, either from a TekSavvy customer who's already made the switch or from a TekSavvy rep, on what would be involved in making the move from Rogers to TekSavvy. In other words: something to convince my parents to agree to switch. |

 | Why not sign up for TekSavvy, whilst still having Rogers, have 2 connections, once they see that TekSavvy is ok, then cancel Rogers. |

DSL or go over to Distributel Cable. |

 | elwood, I'm not sure what you're saying? Should I do as Fluffy suggests and get the TekSavvy 25/7 DSL plan in parallel with my Rogers cable prior to cancelling it? Part of the reason I'm switching is because I have a DOCSIS 2 modem and have had my Extreme Plus speeds cut from 27mbps to 14 (i.e. Rogers is billing me for Extreme Plus but only delivering Express). If I switch to TSI will I have the choice of buying a dedicated modem instead of the SMC gateway POS? |

| reply to Fuzzy Dunlop Im happy with the switch from Rogers to Teksavvy. If you're interested in getting Teksavvy cable, have you tried entering in your postal code to ensure cable service is available? As previously stated, some areas have a "stop sell" as they are near capacity.
And yes, you will get a dedicated modem only. |

| reply to Fuzzy Dunlop Canada Computers sells the DOCSIS 3.0 modems that Teksavvy advertises, and even offer those Cable 'packages' there too...
Maybe it's cheaper to pick one up there, because the initially cost is cheaper than me hooking up with a third party to teksavvy (which I regret paying 200+ dollars for)...
It's like 130~150ish i think for the package and basic internet package. |

 | Ok, so I've given notice to Rogers of my intention to cancel my Internet service with them and have gone through the setup process on the TSI website. I've decided to go for the DSL dry loop 25/7 300GB/month plan. On paper, it looks like a faster option than my current Rogers Extreme plan (25/1). I still have a few questions however:
• is TSI's 25/7 DSL sufficient for HD NetFlix streaming and BitTorrent? (upstream bandwidth is important) • how does the quality of service for DSL stack up against cable in Toronto? (I'm in the east end of the city) • what are my choices for DSL modems vs. cable? (I would prefer to buy rather than rent) |
