 | [TWC] Speeds are faster than advertised? I am currently paying 30/month for the up to 10mb/s plan. Whenever I run speedtest.net I get around 27mb/s. How is this possible? |

 | Powerboost.
A technology developed and licensed from Comcast that allows users to receive a temporary burst of speed when there is available bandwidth on your node. If you download a large file, and the host is able to support such speeds you will see those higher speeds for a brief period of time, but it will not be sustained. Eventually you will back down to your normal provisioned speeds. I cant remember how long Powerboost lasts, but I believe its like for the first 30 seconds of the download. -- 2011 Time Warner Cable Forum @ DSLReports Poster Of The Year! | Thanks for the quick reply. I also thought it could be turbo boost. Do you know of any large files I could download without restriction? |

Do you know of any large files I could download without restriction? »www.testmy.net is good place to test your speed. go to download only test and choose a file of at least 50mb or larger, i would recommend 100mb since you got speedboost.
NOTE: I am on 20/2 as DOCSIS 3 has not been turned on here yet. |

| Very strange. 8mbps was the west coast link. The others were even worse.
Then I ran some tool for the mac called IPNetTunerX and picked the "FiOS" profile. Now it's showing 45mbps for all 3 locations!
Still not sure why TestMy was so much more affected than, well, just about anything else, but on the plus side it apparently identified some sort of issue with my system. 45mbps from the EAST coast is pretty impressive.

| There's a reason why it says their testing method is different. I've found it to be pretty spot on accurate provided you've got a good route to one of their servers. I can't seem to pull more than 70Mbps from their East Coast server while at work, but that might be just a machine issue as it's a Windows machine I've checked it on, not a Linux box. Windows 7 is probably not being very aggressive in tuning itself. |

 | reply to Vince5522 We use to pay for a 12mb/s plan, but regularly got 16-18mb/s. I never said a word about it to anyone though! |
