[Connectivity] Catastrophic Internal Network Failure

I have Suddenlink for both work and home use.
Our internet has been fairly rock stable, however today it has been rather intermittent.

The technical support number for Suddenlink is busy, and the one time I got through to the tech support center, a recording played indicating they had a catastrophic internal failure and access to the internet was not available.
I still have access here, however it is rather spotty.

I just called again, and the message has changed with a couple of the eastern markets unaffected, but all others are.

My wife tried to pull up Google to find something, and it pulled up Suddenlink's search portal.. interesting..

The internet is very spotty here (Lubbock, TX) as well.
Having the same issues with Google redirecting to Suddenlink search.

Bing is working fine though.

I have been having problems with my Internet for 3 days. I'm a little angry right now because it's ridiculous that another tech cannot come out until Tuesday. I would pay extra to have priority over other customers, like a preferred tech service.

I wrote about the issue in another thread. I don't know if it is related to what is going on (I could not get into their support for a long time, their lines either rang busy or just rang) but my modem acts like its ranging and during the time my service degrades and then the lights go solid again for a minute and it ranges again. But according to the support message I heard, they made it sound like it was a network wide outage for ALL Suddenlink customers.

So I called in and the guy stated that everyones Internet was out and I explained to him that this has been ongoing for me and inquired about the earliest time that a tech could come out (Tuesday).

I've been having the same issues today as well. I'm in Austin Texas. I thought it was a DNS issue, but it appears to be a bigger issue than that. I can get to some public websites at times and then later I go back and cannot get to the site. The Suddenlink support line has a long wait. I was getting a busy signal for a time earlier when trying to call.

It is DNS related...I switched to google's DNS and problem disappeared

Been having issues for like a week they started at the same time SuddenLink activated the BS cap in my area that is meant to "Improve my experience".

I've been very displeased with Suddenlink for a long time (their cable is god awful which is why I simply don't use cable anymore) but until Uverse came here recently they were the only high speed connection besides crappy DSL. Uverse has the same caps but I'm gonna be switching to them in the next month or two because Suddenlink has bad customer service and has always pissed on their customers.

Suddenlink will be lucky to get any money from me this month.

I was having trouble getting to certain sites. Don't think it was DNS because I could resolve the hostnames. Traceroute indicated dying at a suddenlink router.

As I type this, seems like things are back to normal. Weird....

Should be back up now.

@suddenlink.net

Ya it's up now but it's happened multiple times throughout the week.

Scooter

@classicnet.net

ok SDL L3Tech what was it?

I switched over OpenDNS at the router, even if this was not DNS related, seems like a good move.

Zach23

@suddenlink.net

Ugh OpenDNS has been crap for a while now. They never update their crap and a lot of websites don't resolve or resolve to an old cache.

Scooter

@classicnet.net

Really?...got a source for that? Everything I read says for DNS, Google or OpenDNS...I went with OpenDNS as it is the fastest at my location.

I've got Suddenlink here in Pflugerville, TX and experienced the same failure. I *really* wish they would actually post *somewhere* when they're having issues as well as what the problem was and resolution.

A long time ago when I had Timewarner Austin, they had a network status page where you could see (unless you had issues at your home) what was going on.

Probably not related to today's troubles, but I continue to have significant bandwidth ( under 2 Mbps at times) issues in the peek evening hours, *but* only to certain sites (netflix). For example, I've used 10s of different speedtests and many will report the low bandwidth, but I'll also find one to LA or New York and I'll pull a full 10Mbps in the middle of this slowness. That implies something more upstream than my local node/modem.

I wish they would be more open about what's going on and when it's going to be fixed. I've thought about seeing about bumping up to the 20Mbps plan, but I doubt that'll help at peek hours =(

You are probably correct on your doubt about the 20 meg not helping at "peek hours", because even with a D3 and ds 4 channel-bonding doesn't help me out around here anymore....historic symptoms of over-selling the node and probably need of a system bandwidth upgrade.

Using Google DNS or another DNS probably can get you through those kind of issues reported in this thread, maybe even for a few other good reasons.
