| [Serious] Need some prayers for Kathy My wife Kathy and team mate(kzar313) has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She got the news this afternoon and has an appointment with a breast surgeon Feb. 2. Needless to say we are pretty scared at this point. We are hopeful it's early and can be treated effectively. Any prayers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

| reply to jaynick Praying, of course. I can certainly relate given the fact many of my family members have needed to deal with various cancers.
Both of you need to learn as much as you can and stay strong. There are a lot of survivors out there and there is a lot of support. -- Join Team Helix * I am praying for these friends . |

| reply to jaynick Kathy and you have our hopes and prayers. If it is of any encouragement, my sister-in-law, Cathy, is a 10-year survivor. She is probably more active and invigorated than ever. She and my brother are long-distance bicycle riders showing no signs of slowing down. Each individual is different, of course, but certainly treatment is better today than it was just 10-20 years ago. |

| My prayers and thoughts to both of you.
I hope that you don't mind if I share this with you?
Cancer sure is scary...my wife Anne has cancer (not breast cancer) and it is a stubborn customer to deal with. At first, all we wanted to know was how to "fix" it and make it go away. We thought surgery would get rid of it...but it was not to be, the cancer returned, and there have been ups and downs. Now we understand that cancer is a long-term battle, but one that you can live with. Fortunately, with aggressive treatment, Anne's cancer is in remission.
For what ever it may be worth, we learned that although you never "forget it", neither do you let it become the focal point of your lives. There are too many other things to live for to allow it to become a fixation.
Happily, treatment has become better and better, so there is much good reason for hope.
I will never say that this has been a good thing, but at the same time, Anne and I appreciate each other more than ever, and things that at one time might have thrown us in a tizzy, are now minor and much more manageable. In some ways we are both stronger, and have a deeper appreciation of things that we once took for granted.
Also, while we don't wallow in it, we found that being open and allowing others "in" really does help...not something that came natural to us at first.
You will be a great help to Kathy...but don't obsess over always saying or doing the right thing...you will probably have your brilliant...and stupid moments. Be supportive, but let Kathy give you your cues (that was hard for me!). At times she will want to talk about it, other times not. -- Deeds, not words |
