Surprise Price Hike

If AT&T announced it somehow, I missed it. My DSL Lite increased to $29.95, up $5.00.

My current bill arrived today with a past due amount of $5.08 because I paid $24.95 last month instead of the hiked to $29.95 amount.

With Comcast also raising prices, it might be time to consider a bundle withe one or the other.

DSL 6.0 still at $42.95 this month. I want the introductory and promotional AT&T DSL rates, as they exist presently, to end. I and other long time users are being asked for way too much to continue subsidizing them. They pay half of what I do per month for a whole year and get the gateway/modem for free. I say give the newcomers half price service for 6 months and a free gateway. Or give the 12 months 1/2 price service, but charge full price for the modem or gateway. If they have not figured out if the service is good enough by then, they can leave.

Call retentions and ask them if they can give you a better deal then the Cable Company and they will give you a discount. I've done that twice now and gotten half price DSL for 6 mo both times.

Got my bill late last week and was surprised when I opened it up over the weekend. As with Graysonf, a nice little $5 bump effective with this new bill. That comes on a $5 bump about 14 months ago. Net-Net is a 50% increase in monthly cost in the lite version of DSL Direct while performance declines due to congestion upstream. Truly a bummer.

I got my bill last week too, but what caught my eye was a past due amount of $5.00 plus an $0.08 interest charge. I got out the prior month's bill and sure enough it was hiked $5.00.

Since the bill is always the same, I typically don't look at it. I just pay the same amount every month via online banking. That's why I didn't notice the hike.

I know I didn't get any email about it either. It just went up.

I know I can give Comcast the same $29.95 for six months and get a lot more speed. I might just do it.

I would kind of like to go to cable because of the faster speeds but the cable in my neighborhood is very old and the last time I had it, it only worked about 3 days out of 7 per week. I was having to have a back up dial up provider for emergencies. So I went to Comcast forum to try to see if anybody around here has it and has good luck with it and couldn't find a thing except the same sorts of complaints I saw way back when. I guess I'm stuck with DSL 3.0. It's not horrible or anything but when I visit someone who lives in another town who has good cable I'm envious. Oh well.

I'm going to be willing to try cable, unless AT&T is willing to give me a higher speed package for the price I am now paying for 768K lite.

It's insane that I am paying more for the lowest tier service than others are paying for the top tier service.

I just got my February bill and DSL is still the same price.

However, a couple of months ago they started charging me about $6 extra per month for long-distance service that I do not use. That is $4 plus new taxes and fees. So, I am basically in the same boat, but for a different reason.

I have no real options. Just Charter Cable, which everyone seems to hate worse than AT&T.

I have DSL Lite Direct, no phone service. The price is the price, there are no taxes or fees listed on my bill. It's now $29.95. Too much.

I called AT&T today and was able to get the price for DSL Lite Direct lowered from $29.95 to $14.95 for the next 12 months. They said it can take up to two billing cycles to see the reduction, but that they will rebate any overage paid during that period.

We'll see.

You can discontinue the long distance service and use an alternate provider like I do.

I dropped my AT&T long distance altogether, as I use my cell phone for long distance. A couple of months later, they started charging $2.00 per month for not having long distance, which, with extra taxes, etc. amounted to close to $6.00 per month for not having long distance. It took lots of calls and escalations, but they finally removed the charges. Information I found on the internet about the charge was helpful.

Yes, that is what I am talking about.

The very first time I got my reductions, they told me the same thing and they actually followed through and credited the overage against the current month's billing..
