Sister Has HD television with digital convertal

My sister has an HD television, it is digital ready of course, Mediacom still says she needs a digital convertal for the transition, I told her she doesn't. Does she or does she not?

She will need one if the local market encrypts channels. They do here. Even with a digital tuner you will just get a black screen.

Either that, or a CableCard if her TV has a CableCard slot.

Not that it's very easy to install and get a CableCard up and running, of course...

Mediacom encrypts the QAM feeds since when?
What town/state are you in?

The HD feeds are encrypted in almost every market. Even Cedar Rapids, where overbuild carrier ImOn offers HD in Clear QAM. IowaMan what market are you in with ClearQAM HD?

Ha I had a brain freeze and missed the title, HD, not SD (As I was thinking) Mediacom MAY/WILL go clear QAM HD once ALL areas are digital.
