| [RANT] Network TV is out of control NBC's Fear Factor that is to air Monday has a stunt that goes beyond poor judgment.
I have written NBC30 asking them what is the matter with them that they air stuff like this which is just wrong on all counts.

Whoever thought of it needs psychiatric evaluation. Seriously. |

I just can't believe that something like that will be aired on broadcast tv. Not like that makes much of a difference nowadays. |

DrStrangeTechnically feasiblePremium join:2001-07-23 West Hartford, CT kudos:1 | Actually, now that I've had a few minutes to think about it [5-month old son is asleep for now] I'm wondering if 18 USC 1468 could be of use in this situation.
As far as I can tell, this garbage 'passes' the Miller test.
Should I wander over to fcc.gov and file a complaint? |

| reply to orion940 I mailed NBC30, I tweeted (go me, huh) Brian Williams saying its a shame he lost me as a viewer but I can't trust NBC"s judgment for broadcasting standards. I'm not done yet. Im gonna hit the sponsors as well.
If you get the link to fcc to file a complaint, let us know.

| reply to orion940 TV hits bottom...
... and keeps digging
I don't know how that show works, but if I was unknowingly given either to drink, you can be assured there would be a felony assault charge on my horizon.
Fortunately for me I won't be watching it, as any shows with TV commercials every 8 minutes drives me to the brink of insanity. I'm paying for the TV signal, and yet I have to watch dozens of ads per show? Something wrong with that scenario. Maybe it's just my cranky old man self, but it seems the commercial slots nowadays are almost as long as the show. Don't even get me started on shows with laugh tracks. |

| Funny thing isn't it? I pay for cable television, for which the companies that own the channels I watch on said cable provider charge the cable providers a fee to broadcast their channels on said cable provider's network. But even though they get that revenue stream, the channels that are on my cable provider still have commercials for a secondary revenue stream.
As Yakov Smirnoff always use to say, 'What a Country!' -- "The level of sacrifice that you give is beyond my comprehension. If the rest of us in the Country showed the level sacrifice that you do on a daily basis, we wouldn't have any of the problems we have." Comedian Lewis Black speaking to the US troops. |

I do not watch the show, so I would have no idea this is what they are doing, but it really is disgusting |

 | reply to orion940 As deep throat said follow the money. If you want to complain, I would go after the sponsors. Personally, I've never watch that dribble. No pun intended. |

bennorPremium join:2006-07-22 New Haven, CT | reply to orion940 Sounds like an advertising stunt that succeeded due to the amount of talk about the show.
It also shows the lengths some will go for their 15 minutes (or 43 minutes - the length of the show without commercials) of fame and a little bit of possible fortune.
Bottom line is people will watch because of the shock value. And that is what the shows producers and advertisers are counting on. |

| reply to Grumpy I agree Grumpy. $35-40 a month for cable...and I need to be subjected to ads. it doesn't make sense. These networks must make money had over fist.
Maybe we'll see the model change. My wife and I listen to a ton of internet radio; mainly Pandora. Even with the free service, there's hardly any commercials. And if push came to shove, $36 a year isn't that bad to not have to hear commercials. It worked on radio...maybe we'll see the TV landscape change that way soon. -- I ski at Mount Snow |

| reply to orion940 Freedom of speech is one thing, but there should be a level of decency that is allowed to be broadcasted. I agree with most posts here (disgusting), TV has hit a all time low I read about this last week somewhere and almost tossed my cookies half way through the article. How I also see it with TV shows like this, is a reason why kids are screwed up as well today. I wonder how long it will be before some kids are caught trying to milk a bull to make one of their friends pull the same stunt? |

| reply to orion940 I grew up in the 60s and recall when the word "ass" was forbidden on TV. Nowadays the show "Family Guy" has an audio that pushes the limits way beyond good taste. While I may be amused at what they say, I don't really think a ten year old needs to hear that kind of thing. Yes, I know the parents should etc., but still - it's pretty rude stuff. |

| Here's another "I'm getting old...." We took my wife's car the other day and she had Top 40 on. I actually listened to some of the lyrics...and thought: "Pre teen kids probably listen to this.... do they need to hear about that type of stuff?" -- I ski at Mount Snow |

GrumpyPremium join:2001-07-28 NW CT | reply to Grumpy I heard similar (cough) "music" the other day, where every third word was F---. It scared me down to my craw to think of our society in years ahead, when we will be crapping in our own living rooms as a societal norm. |
|
 | reply to orion940 Forget music.
Kids are corrupted by TV and the Internet.
The internet is the #1 reason why kids these days have no shame. Back in the day I took naked pics of my girlfriend with a kodak camera - but it only made ONE picture........not high def, not clear, just enough....and for sure not shared all over the world.
I'm seriously thinking that I don't want kids because of what they grow up with. |
