Re: [RANT] Network TV is out of control

Things have gotten disgusting and crude. There is little "class" left in people, consider for instance Jan Brewer's fingering the president. If that had been done to Reagan or Kennedy there would have been an uproar. People have no dignity any longer. Like MIA's middle finger at half time incident. No class, no dignity, no respect for others.

The other day I was in a government facility and listened to a really loud mouthed foreign language speaker (she didn't consider that whitey here speaks her language). She was boistrously loud and crude and deliberately obnoxious. And then, as soon as I walked out of the place, a piggish girl came out and spit a big luger as she walked out the door. Even I don't spit when I walk out a door. Crude. Shameless. Ignorant.

With media going mainstream with disgusting displays, and parents getting drunk and having their children drive for them, society has crumbled.

At least in the old days it was just old fashioned wife and child beating, like in my family. Now adults curse like sailors right in front of little children.

And people who post on the interwebs and facebook don't know the difference between homonyms such as to, too, and two; there, their, and they're, or can't tell what a proper ellipsis is (four, five, six dots???)

Perhaps it IS time for China and India to take our place in the educational and advancements of modern culture. Perhaps America is just a lost cause.

I am not hung up on bible belt mentality, but my Gosh...

Not to drag this off topic into the political field but there wasn't an uproar when NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams finger pointed Present Bush back in 2006. Williams forgot his finger pointing episode when he commented on the Brewer finger pointing by saying; "Who have you ever seen talking to the president like this and what was this all about?" The whole feigned outrage by the media over Obama getting finger pointed was silly and shows their political bias. There is a picture of President Obama finger pointing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the White House, yet no feigned outrage in the media over that image. People, including Presidents, point fingers all the time and some people may not even realize they are doing it when they speak. But then again people will see what they want to see from their discussion on the tarmac that day.

To the overall discussion on the quality of network TV. What is acceptable on TV is a reflection of society. Has society become more acceptable of behavior some would call unacceptable? Probably. Civility is in retreat these days. Some of what we see these days is a direct reflection of people's retreat into the use of electronics rather than face to face interpersonal contact. People say and post things on line they'd never say or do when face to face with a living breathing person. The stuff kids and adults post to Facebook these days is one example. People post their entire lives, minute by minute, on there. People post Tweets that would be considered insulting if said face to face.

Why should we be surprised at MIA's use of a curse word and flipping the New Jersey Salute on live TV during the Super Bowl? Much of the half time show is lip synced so its scripted before hand. Listen to or read the lyrics of many rap singers, including MIA, and one shouldn't be surprised at what transpired this past Sunday. Nicki Minaj uses the same three words that got radio personality Don Imus fired and there isn't an outrage by those who proclaimed their outrage to the MSM when Imus said those words.

As people no longer have morals and are no longer offended by the actions of others, those who produce TV shows or report the news will change accordingly because they know people will watch it for the shock factor. A long standing saying in the media world is; "If it bleeds, it leads."
