| Verizon "Home Phone Connect" + 4G internet data at home I currently have Comcast double-play for home phone and internet. It continues to cost more and more as rates changes have rolled me off promo prices and they are unwilling to budge with new promos.
I know Verizon offers home phone connect but was wondering if anyone has heard possible plans for an all-in-one solution for home voice/home data from Verizon? I'd like to add this to my existing Verizon service and get rid of Comcast altogether.

So the new thing will be 4g at the home with wireless router that will distribute IP to wireless STB's and then bam- cut the cord- totally-
drawback- they will not need about 90 percent of the workforce they do now- a lot jobs will be lost- full roll out by the end of 2012. In 5 years- no one will even remember FIOS. Wireless broadband speeds are throttled as of now- the capabilities reach over 15m up and down. Within 2 years it will be 35up and 35 down easily. Who would need home internet then? Also Deregulation is out. No more- anyone will be able to put their own service were ever they want. It is cool but then it is very bad in many ways. Will be all self install kits. |

Princeton, MA | I was wardriving with my lappy and Pantech UML290 between home (Princeton, MA) and work (Waltham, MA) and ran a test on a hill in Waltham overlooking route 128. I was about 3/4mi from a cell tower and up on a hill, probably 100' above the base of the tower which was maybe 10' above the highway elevation. I got 48Mbps down and 21Mbps up. I am an electrical engineer and was suprised that was even possible with the bandwidth available for Verizon's LTE. I had to go read up on the LTE modulation since I was puzzled how they get that bandwidth over the 10-11 or so Megahertz for the downlink and uplink bands. I was suprised to find the specs actually call for 15 bits / Hz (impressive) so the theoretical max is actually in the neighborhood of 150Mbps. That's some pretty slick EE statistical comms work! |

I assume for "Home" users they would have more gigs than they do for wireless? The ridiculous caps for wireless wouldn't work for home users. |

That would be slower than what I have now with FiOS. iwa nt to increase my speeds, not decrease them. In 1997 I had 1Mb/s down/33kb/s up, then in 1998 I got 5Mb/s down/1Mb/s up. Now I'm up to 43Mb/s down/35Mb/s.
I want to increae my download speeds. Why would I want to decrease to 35Mb/s down in two years? |
