(Consecutively, even !)
My usage shows ZERO in both directions.
I assure you all that this is not the case !
Who else has noticed this issue ?
EDIT :
When I first saw it, it was for 3 days.
Now it is up to 5 ! |

| reply to Davesnothere My usage is showing.
Inaccurate as all hell, but it's there. In fact, I don't recall seeing the accuracy this bad. Off by miles consistently, day over day. Some days way off in my favour, some days in Cogeco's favour, with a few days spot on.
Since October, Cogeco's usage about 65GB more than what my router shows.
Wonder how their programming handles decimals...

Your experience would suggest a more compelling reason for me to consider alternate firmware for my router (WRT54GL) than I have had so far.
What would the best firmware be to do my local metering, and can it save a log locally to a PC ?
Tomato, DD-WRT, Open-WRT ? (was there one other which the MLPPP crowd likes ?)
I'm not near my limit THIS month, especially considering the blanked out days.
Or is THIS the push I need to get an 'N' series Gigabit router ? (that is if some support the metering, as well as Gigabit wired ports)
My last reason was if my 30 downstream was too fast for my GL, but it seems fine, now that I have found things to do which (test and) take advantage of the raw bandwidth (speed). |

It's saying I downloaded just shy of 50GB on the 18th. In reality it was only 38GB.
This meter is an absolute joke. |

cog_biz_useri ruin threads apparently join:2011-04-19 Hamilton, ON | reply to Davesnothere mine seems fine... despite the fact that cogeco says the "my" site is down for maintenance...
as for the meters being wrong, i don't ever remember mine being off by much, but i hardly ever go over 100gb/month, and usually no more than 2-3gb a day. |

I'm using OpenWRT/Gargoyle. Fabulous. Don't know if it'll run on your router though.

There's an implementation of OpenWRT/MLPPP available:
Again, don't know if it'll run on a WRT54GL.
You may want to consider a newer router maybe?
Gargoyle's usage stats are really nice, and I pull a CSV off the router every month for posterity.
There are likely others.

I use dd-wrt - I don't save the data logs (you can), but I can access back to Nov 2010 when I installed it. It's a WRT54G V8 router. I couple of tests early on gives me the impression that it's way more accurate than Cogeco. |

Constipated Cogeco Usage Meter Responds to Laxative !
MY USAGE has been FINALLY entered for the past 5 days, ALL AT ONCE.
As for accuracy, not sure, but I could do a rough add of the sizes of all of the files I've pulled, to check download traffic for that or some other period of days.
However, not worried as they say I'm at 77%, not counting these final 3 days.
Hmmmm, what should I download to finish January to use up exactly the rest ? |

| reply to Davesnothere My meter is also working properly, and unlike some of the mentions here, mine seems accurate based on my usage. I've never had the "wild" meter problem, its usually exactly what I expect it to show. |

Mike Rounds up the nearest GB. -- No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake....... |

| Yes, figured that. But I meant programmatically.
If their systems are using binary fractional representations of decimals it's impossible to do accurate calculations, cumulative error adding to the effect. It's an accountant's worst nightmare when a penny goes missing. 30 calculations per month per customer, times 100,000 customers, is a lot of pennies.
FWIW, this is one of the problems with the new smart meters in Ontario - their systems use binary fractional representations, so the calculations are off by small margins every month. That's why they can't give the total usage on the bills, because they never add up correctly. According to W&M Act this is illegal, but the minister, bless his black little heart, gave them 2 years to fix it. (Also believe a class action based on this is getting fired up in Toronto but not sure).
