| Using an alternative router or firewall with FIOS. Possible? Ive recently switched over from Cablevision to Verizon FIOS. Im satisfied with everything thus far except for one thing. I was told by Verizon technical support that if I use an alternative router other than their MI424WR-GEN3I that I would lose some of my features on my tv receivers. As this was not an issue with Cablevision and I've become very comfortable with managing security on my own gateway I wanted to know if I have any other options? Does anyone know how the MI424WR-GEN3I stacks up against managed routers like Smoothwall or Zentyal? Im not exactly keen on leaving my network security in the hands of Verizon. Any feedback would be appreciated. |
