[TWC] Will digital cable box fee be waived if I own my box?

Hi, I'm new to the forum and I'm glad of being here. I hope you guys can help me with this doubt in my head. I am currently on the Paquetazo plan which gives me my local digital channels and 30+ spanish channels. In order to view those 30+ spanish channels I need a digital box. Last month I started to get charged a fee for the box, it is a regular SD box with NO dvr. Now, I would like to know if I buy my own compatible box online will I be charged a fee? Does TWC allow this? Thanks.

This is an easy question! You can buy a box online, its almost certainly stolen. Cable boxes are not available for sale to the public.

You could rent a cable card with the correct third party equipment.

Ok, if I rent a cable card will they work even on "stolen" boxes or is there a certain equipment they will only work with?

A cable card will work with a Cable card TV, or a box such as a TIVO. A stolen box will not work period, cable card or not.
Do not buy one.

Oh ok, thanks for clearing this up! Still....I think i'm just gonna stay with the basic analog local channels and basic internet.....hopefully they wont end up telling me it's more expensive that way!

Thanks for your help!

For the first year as a new customer there are promotions that can make digital cheaper than analog.
Talk to the local people.

As previously stated in this thread you will need a cable card and possibly a digital tuning adaptor.

Remember... analog cable will eventually be going the way of the dodo bird. So, eventually all of us will be having a cable box in some form.
