I found it pretty accurate. |

 | They sound like ohio transplants that moved to lakeview about 5 years ago. |
|
 | reply to djdanska I need to go visit my old home town. I need a really great Italian Beef Sandwich, to drive Lake Shore Drive, ride the Illinois Central line electric passenger train routes, and see the giant model railroad in the Museum of Science and Industry. |

| reply to jsinaiko I grew up near the 9000 S Jeffery area. I rode the CTA to the museums, parks, libraries, and beaches. There was a great Italian sandwich shop on 87th street between Jeffery and Stoney Island. Great food also on 71st Street. I lived there from 1966 to 1975. |

| Jeffrey Manor - Pill Hill. Pretty tough shape these days. The IC is now the Mertra but the Jeffrey Express is still there.

| The Pill Hill, if I remember started at 91st street. I guess the end was the East-West railroad line to the south. Walking through that long viaduct to get to or from 95th street was nerve racking. There was never enough light from the electric lights, puddles most of the time, and the city rarely cleaned it excellently. I seem to remember some kind of amusement park set up along 95th street to the west of the shopping centers on Jeffery. Maybe it was a seasonal thing in a parking lot. |

They missed some other fun commercials that I'm sure is imprinted in everyones memory: Golf Mill Ford, Victory Auto Wreckers, and Eagle Man. |

1 edit | My parents used to take us to Old Chicago. I mostly only remember the roller coaster and I think there was a castle of some sort.Don't remember what that was. I was pretty young.
Edit: there it is. Still don't remember what it was for.

| That Victory ad is from about 1980 -a 30-year run on local TV. Has to be some sort of record.
Most of the cars in the photo of the bone yard are from the early 60s and 50s. And the guy is wearing flared Levis, which went out - very, very out, by 1981.
Great old home-made ad.
How long did Great Chicago last - only a few years in the late 70s and early 80s if I remember. I used to sit there off of I-55, a great looming hulk. -- Illegitimati non carborundum

| reply to Warzau The Western Place? You mean the greatest of them all, this side of Coney Island? The one and only Riverview on Belmont and Western?
Closed 1967. I was just old enough to go on my own with friends. Really fun scary place.
It was pretty common to:
Get chased by greasers Ger chased by tough black kids From some perv to try and molest someone To get lost To take the el the wrong way
Not counting the great rides: the Skyrocket, the Mad Mouse, Alladin's Castle, the infamous Bobs (very scary roller coaster). -- Illegitimati non carborundum

BK3 join:2001-04-10 Geneva, IL | reply to djdanska I sold 2 old cars to Victory auto wreckers, back in the eighties, and I bought a front clip for my '84 Dodge from them to repair damage after hitting a deer.
I still have the T-Shirt they gave me when I bought the clip.
Does anyone remember the jingle from Dispensa's castle of toys?
