new NID?

cl is coming to run a third line to my house tuesday. and the nid we have is only for two lines. does anyone know if its standard that they take that one down and put a new one in that supports three lines thats what i would like i dont want to have to run another line from a second nid.

They will do whatever it takes to complete the install. Usually, they will install a single NID to accommodate the number of incoming lines you have. There is no guarantee that they won't just install a second NID for the new line. I would ask them to install a new NID for all the lines with a whole-house filter for each DSL line.

Do you know how many wire pairs are in the bundle coming from the street, and is it overhead or underground? If they have to run new wire for the third line, it may not get done until they can get the wire crew scheduled for your location.

In Ohio I've seen them install a new NID. They'd connect the two NIDs together though at the cross connect- have no clue how they'd do it though. They never really would say.

And if the line needs to be buried. They'd leave it lay on the ground until someone can get out and bury it. That could take MONTHS.

I've seen CL (formerly Embarq) take MONTHS! 5+ to come out and bury a line and SBC/ATT i've seen take over a year to bury a line.

excuse me

it is underground the distribution pedestal is at the bottom of my yard. I told the person on the phone that it would require a new line to the house. i only have 2 pair in the wire underground right now and if they dont bury it i will. my two lines are just dsl so i dont need a filter.i just would like it if they install a new three line nid otherwise i have to run another line into my house.

You might get lucky. What you tell them on the phone does not always make it into the Work Order Notes. They will probably run new wire and leave it on the ground for later burial. Ask them to run a new cable that will carry all the existing lines. That way, it won't matter if the old one gets cut while burying the new one.

My house had existing underground cable from the street to the NID. When we needed the cable replaced, they put in a new aerial drop from the street.

If they install a separate NID, you would just need a line between the two. Will your existing wiring handle three DSL circuits? If possible, I would have a separate run from the NID for each modem.

The 2 line nid's are very common but 6 line nid's are just as common
That nid pictured can only support 2 lines
It looks like the telco cable has just 2 wire pairs
The inside cables look like they have unused wire pairs

If the telco just adds another 2 line nid it would take little effort to run a jumper from one nid to the other

yeah i could just put a plug on the green pair and run it over to the 2nd nid, thats the pair i am going to use for the third line. im thinking more about looks it would look nicer if they just put one nid in that way i wont have two on my house. i really do hope they will run one line with enough pairs it will be nice to have new cable for everything.

Telco's don't care about looks......You can purchase and install a 6 line nid after the telco is done

From what I can see you will need a new telco cable or a second telco cable
