 | [Eastern Ontario] Cogeco digital TV quality Visited a friend in Brockville last autumn who is a "basic" TV subscriber to Cogeco. They had just received and set up a box which they where told was required to get digital channels. I must say that the television picture they got after plugging in the box was nothing to write home about. It has noticeably lower picture quality than what I receive with my antenna from OTA stations in Ottawa. The colors are dull and the contrast is too harsh. On top of that, they told me that the sound level frequently jumps up and down randomly from "too loud" to "too soft". They also have to use the remote that comes with the Cogeco box instead of their TV remote, which is a nuisance.
Question 1, Did anyone else have this problem with Cogeco, and if yes, Question 2 is WTF?
I urged them to get a professional installer to put an antenna on their tower, which has been sitting unused since probably 20 years. Their neighbors and friends living in the area get over a dozen digital channels from both Canada and USA with various antenna designs, as long as it is on a tower. |

 | The OTA stations I get here in Niagara are better than anything I can get with Bell or Cogeco; however the stations I watched with Cogeco when I had it were so lossy compressed, I ditched Cogeco. Bell was slightly better. |

| reply to Hermie Frankly, I didn't really know what I was missing on Cogeco until I switched off of it and went to Shaw Direct. Picture quality is visibly orders of magnitude better. I went for the [much] cheaper, so this was a big bonus.
