Re: [OOL] Internet keeps dying, tech sprt says everything is fin

@jaa I dont know, the way the last tech I had come over said(and I'll quote his exact words) "There is no charge for this visit." felt to me that he was going to charge me but decided not to. Anyways we're getting really off-topic here so I suggest leaving the whole charge thing to another thread(like my thread which I will update tomorrow to tell if the tech coming tomorrow fixes my t3 timeouts and resets.

That is what I've been trying to say - they don't charge for service calls. Didn't charge you last time, and won't charge you this time.

Ok, if they never charge you why do they always have to say "There is no charge for this visit."? Is it just something they have to do?

If you are a little old lady that is lonely, perhaps after a few visits they charge. How many visits have you had -have you ever been charged? Know anyone who has? Seen anyone post they were charged?

They're supposed to tell you if there is or is not a charge when they give you the work order (and they mark it accordingly and make you sign). People get charged in some cases, but it generally would fall under the "you insisted on a tech against CV's advice, and the problem was found to be with customer equipment" more than "no trouble found", as the charge is supposed to be for repairing or diagnosing customer equipment, and not just the visit itself.

That's obviously not a promise for future scenarios, but just an observation I've made.

I have NEVER heard of a customer asking CV for onsite repair and being refused.

Sorry, I didn't quote that correctly in my reply-- but I did finish reading the thread before editing and what I have learned is this, when I ask for a tech call and the CV rep tells me that they'll send a tech, but the charge is $35 if they decide the problem is not their fault (which I have been told EVERY SINGLE TIME I have requested a service call), then:

a) i should have the good sense to know they are not telling me the truth and request a visit anyway, and,

b) if the tech who visits has the bad manners to check the box next to $35 fee on his service check, I should bully him/her into not doing it by threatening to give them a terrible rating the next day.

No wonder my first thought on hearing of the $35 fee/threat was, wow, what a sneaky way to cut down on the number of service calls, without actually addressing any of the real problems!

Hi njuser. Welcome to last month's discussion.

The fee is to protect them against abuse. I'll bet your town would charge you for summoning the fire department if there were no fire - mine does. First false alarm is free, after that they charge.

I have never heard of anyone getting charged by CV for a service call - ever. And yes, hopefully it cuts down on service calls. Shouldn't the customer check their equipment first before even calling CV? Seems like common courtesy. And if it is the customer's fault (cable modem plugged into a switched outlet causing intermittent "outages"), shouldn't CV be entitled to get reimbursed for their cost? They still NEVER charge for phone support, even if it is the customer's fault (cable modem unplugged, PC not working, etc).
